Ralph Italian Heirloom would fit the bill, but sadly you are going to have a booger of a time finding any seeds. It was brought from Italy to America at the turn of the century. I've been on a quest, but the only place that has any seeds is Victory and you have to put your name on a list to request them. As soon as it's profitable for them, they will grow it out.

You won't find details but one of the old Italian beans is sold by Sandhill Preservation as Sicitalian Black Swamp Bean. The story is of a very old man who gave some seed to a friend roughly 50 years ago before the friend emigrated to the U.S. The beans had been in the old gentleman's family from before the turn of the century as in pre-1900. The old gentleman died and the friend dropped a handful of the beans in his casket before he was buried.

I was given some of the seed about 10 years ago and did not grow them for several years. When I finally tried to grow them, they did not germinate. I got out the last 100 seed I had and planted them in a cell tray using an old seed protocol and got enough to germinate to grow a short row of beans. I sent seed back to the person who gave them to me and sent enough to Sandhill to be listed in their catalog.

Sicitalian Black Swamp Bean is an arbitrary name. it is made up from the origin of the bean in Sicily, the color which is black, and the swamp is from the name of the cat of the man who gave me the beans. They are very productive. This is the only bean I have grown that is uniquely adapted to be frozen as a green snap bean.

Two more old Italian pole beans are "Uncle Steve's" brought over from Sicily tn the early 1900's and one I've been growing since 1965, it was brought over from northern Italy in 1911. I named it "Emelia's Italian" in the honor of the lady who brought it to Canada.
