Yup, there are roots in the bag :) They are shorter and thicker than the ones you seen in a commercial greenhouse, but seem happy.

I think roots in a bag on vandas at your locale has logic and a good idea. However here it would get moldy.

That’s really a beauty! I’d like to know more how you grow with thee roots enclosed. Are the roots enclosed for a short time, then allowed open air or do they actually spend most of their life inside the bag?

I don’t have many vandas and I’d love to find a better way to grow them. I’m experimenting with growing them in empty pots. Only four of the ten are doing well in the pots. One died. Three are in my ‘plant hospital’ area , which means spag ‘n bag. Two larger plants are hanging on, still not really liking being potted.

I throw a bag around the roots around Thanksgiving through Easter. Bag comes off to water (I soak a couple times a week) and I spray with water daily through the top but keeping the bag on. The bag is on very loosely and roots dry out within a couple of days - if not daily. It's simply to try to keep a bit of humidity around them.

Generally, they still do ok without the bag during winter, but I feel this gives them a little extra TLC. Once spring comes and the humidity in the house is naturally higher, the bags come off. Once nighttime temps stay above 50F, they go outside for the summer. They get full sun indoors and afternoon sun (11am-sunset) outdoors.
