Well check this out. We bought a home warranty in April. Tried to use them today. They don't answer their phone; they don't return messages. Finally an HVAC company was able to get a hold of them so they could come out and find out why our A/C unit takes so long to cool. Turns out this unit is prehistoric. The warranty company doesn't cover the Freon refill; doesn't cover the compression test and doesn't cover replacing the unit. Somebody please explain to me why I chose this company? It's not like A/C isn't important in 100 degree weather!

My dd just came home from school (Jr High) and I guess after school she was approached by an older girl at her locker. The girl said "So, how long have they been together?" DD had no clue what they were talking about so she asked who. The girl said "Your eyebrows." and walked away cackling with sone of the other witches.

Oh I know... we had to switch schools starting grade 5 because of mean girls. I was bullied as well, in grade 6 and 11.

I was bugged in grade 6 because of my marks. I was 'the nerd'. I was in a small school with 25 in my class and only 9 girls. Those 9 decided not to talk to me for six weeks and constantly made fun of me. Then grade 11 it was because I was tall and skinny.

Granted, it made me the person I am today...

Bullies suck. I was bullied in Grade 5 as well.. we'd moved from Kelowna to Calgary in mid-year, and I had to start school in a rough part of Calgary (schools by me were full). These girls were awful... picking fights with me on the playground and getting on (mine, not their) school bus to follow me home... to what.. beat me up? My mom screamed long and loud until they moved me to a new school.

It's a Canadianism -- marks = grades. And we are in "Grade 5" not "5th Grade". And high school starts in Grade 10.... oh, and it's ZED, not ZEE... ZED!

RobinW – Maybe your daughter should have mentioned that Brook Shields made a career of her prominent eyebrows! I don’t get it .. bullying is such a big deal now in the schools, with sensitivity training .. yet from friends with kids, it sounds like it’s worse than ever, and the teachers/administration aren’t any better than the “mean kids”!

I love watching the geese and the ducks on the lake! There are a pair of Canada geese, with six babies. Mom and dad got in the water and four babies followed. Then I heard this "peep, peep, peep", and mom stopped, turned around and waited for the other two to catch up.

The duck (mallard?) has 10 babies! A dog came along and she started quacking to get all the babies further out into the water together, and then chased the dog off the lake! I don't know where dad is, does he not stick around like the Canada geese papa?

ETA: Wikipedia tells me that the mallard momma is on her own. "Mallards usually form pairs (in October and November) only until the female lays eggs at the start of nesting season which is around the beginning of spring, at which time she is left by the male who joins up with other males to await the moulting period which begins in June."

I don't know if they do or not Kimdee.... I see a lot of ducks out here with babies and very few "pretty ones"

I was bullied too...some of it prepares us for adult life, but some of it definitely crosses the line and calls for intervention!! Sorry Robin...I agree our kids need advocates. As I mentioned, meetings and written documentation tend to put most people on alert.

bobbi, i had a home warranty 9 or 10 years ago. a realtor relative insisted i should buy one since my home was getting on in yrs. HUGE MISTAKE. horrible. they are useless, rotten. absolute rip off. they left this area and i thought they were out of business but just googled them and there still out there. over 1300 complaints on one site alone. rated 1 out of 5 stars.
you're probably better to eat the loss now and just hire pros when problems come up. these people will make you wait and wait and then use the cheapest,junkiest parts. you'll just have to replace wahtever they do in a short time.

We went to dinner tonight with new friends I have met as they asked me to help with their homes. Great time. But, one of the apps was so simple. Fresh cherry tomatoes tossed with Greek olives and a little bit of the oil and then with a sprinkle of Mediterranean salt mix. Next to the dish she had crackers and feta cheese to compliment. Fab.

@mforr - Too bad the weather's so awful today; I'm doing a couple of hours volunteer work, then lunch at the Spring Lake Golf Club for an organization I just joined. Places like that are so beautiful .. when the weather's nice, who feels like wearing a raincoat & having an umbrella?!
