no wood floor tile! don't ruin your bathroom.

do a black porcelain, or a marble or a slate. or, have you thought about a cement tile? or carrying the carrara ?

i have a hex shower floor and did a large herringbone pattern in my bathroom

you could do it w/a basalt, or slate, or any time of black/gray tile

or this size (looks like a 4x12) on the floors. this looks like honed black marble.

I am doing a cement tile in the mud room, but no, I haven’t thought about it for the bathroom. Hmmm

So, are you saying if I go with a black vanity, I should stick with a lighter floor in there?

I wouldn't do marble in the shower too much maintenance. It has to be kept sealed or the marble will absorb the water changing its color

First.................decide the TOP on your vanity. You have a lot going on, with dark grout in white subway, and SHIP LAP = a lot of horizontal lines. I would not use a wood top on the vanity, especially with vessel sinks.

The first pic in Beth's response looks very nice and would complement the dark vanity. However, I like your idea of a wood-look floor to keep with the farmhouse theme; there are porcelain and ceramic tiles that look like just like wood and would give you the light wood look, without the worry of actual wood flooring. Since that was your first gut desire at least investigate.

Miacometlady, I’m only 40, but I will die in this house because I’m never leaving this place, therefore, many of my decisions are being based on that! For example, the shower will be a wheelchair accessible in case we have to move parents in later. :)

There is no way I could ever install marble, we have the hardest well water known to man - even with a filtration system.

Attached is a floor plan of the space. We did add more space to the shower by taking away from the vanity size. The vanity space is now 76” long. I would probably look for a quartz for the vanity top - I have quartz in my kitchen and love it.

I thought about a lighter wood-look tile, but the adjoining rooms will have dark hard wood, so I thought the different wood transition would look less than desirable.

So, no wood countertop - I’ll choose something lighter.

I see many suggestions for patterned tile. How about a lighter gray patterned tile and dark vanity and black doors such as the attached pic? Am I getting away from my target style too much with a patterned tile such as this? I also fear that I will get tired of the patterned floor.

And do you think I should nix the dark shower grout and go with a lighter gray there as well?

I like those floor tiles! Just make sure tile installer can install them without too much lippage on the shower pan. The shower pan should have a slight decline from all corners to the drain so the water doesn't sit /puddle anywhere on the shower floor. I think small tiles are used more commonly because of that reason. I think if shower pan is installed 100% perfect it could be done but getting the slope exactly the same from the same distance from the drain isn't really easy in my opinion but I'm not an installer. I have taken showers in places that puddle in corners horribly though :-/

Make sure they waterproof your shower correctly too or that's a nightmare

I chose chrome because of my rock hard water. This is a home addition that we are doing (which will essentially be an entire new house). I have oiled bronze fixtures in my existing bathroom and the water spots on the bronze fixtures are awful. So that finish is out of the window here if it will touch water. The only oiled bronze I will have will be door knobs.

The vanity will look more like a furniture piece, so I wanted to set apart from the wall mounted faucet with antique brass drawer pulls (there will only be 3 drawers),

The hexagon pattern is my favorite. Don't forget about adding one of our drains to finish off the shower in true luxury!
