I use one of those soft, textured microfiber cloths (you can pick them up in the dollar store or similar) with Dawn dish detergent or Dr. Bronner's liquid soap. Dawn cuts the grease better and it's very, very mild on the plants. Maybe experiment with spraying it on the leaves and letting it sit a minute or two, then rinse with a heavy spray ... you may not even have to wipe!

I would think cooking grease would be much more harmful to the plant clogging up pores than any wiping would be. One can much more easily accomplish adapting to the lack of hairs by misting frequently (recommended anyway) and keeping the plant out of direct sunlight (also recommended).

Don't use soap on a fern.

Grease will not "clog the pores" of a plant. Stomata are able to open and close with quite a lot of debris or oil on the surface of the leaf/frond.

If there is sufficient build up, accumulated cooking grease can most certainly adversely impact the health and growth of the plant!!

I don’t know where your idea comes from; we spray plants with oils all the time with no ill effects. Neem oil, horticultural oil, and various vegetable and herb oils are routinely used on all types of houseplants. Cooking oils and other natural fats would not be very different. If someone were sugesting a heavy lubrication oil like 10-40 that would be a different question. Is that what you cook with Gardengal?
