It's hard to tell from the pic, as the most apparent thing is the ceiling light. Is that on a dimmer? Also I see one lamp but it looks a little low to be useful as a bedside light. Are there more? Lamp light is much more soothing than overhead, though overhead allows you to see into dresser drawers.

I would definitely want curtains to soften the look and deaden the sound in the room. While I get the monochrome thing, I still think I'd want to bring in a touch of color...I love a lot of different colors with grays, including yellow, burgundy, peach, soft greens or light blues. So maybe bring in a color in a solid drape and then a throw pillow or two to add some interest...and it looks like you could use a rug on the floor to be warm and soft for your bare feet.

Thank you Annie. I will look at possibly higher lamps. I agree with the rug. would you recommend a printed rug, or just a plain one since the duvet has a print?

The ceiling light looks much brighter b/c of the flash on my camera. It is a capiz shell light that is flush mount due to ceiling height only being 8'.

You can get a printed rug, but the print would need to be a very different sized print than what's on the bedspread and needs to be in the same color family. I'd stay away from anything lattice or large graphic as it would be too busy.

For example, if you wanted to add some blue, you could go with a traditional oriental carpet with the gray and blue in it, like this one as the patterns are very different in size.

You can go with a solid or a tweed too.
