Sharing a practical planning checklist from Fredesigner, a custom window-treatment brand, for rooms that need both daylight and evening privacy.

1. Look at the room after sunset. A fabric that seems private in daylight may behave differently with the lamps on. Try a sample at the window under the lighting you actually use, and decide which layer you will close in the evening.

2. Plan where the curtains go when open. Measure the intended rod or track, then check the space available for the gathered panels at each side. Allow for nearby cabinets, furniture and handles. For two layers, check that the hardware provides enough separation for both to move comfortably.

3. Consider the gaps as well as the fabric. An opaque or blackout lining is only one part of light control. The center overlap and the space at the top and sides also affect how the room feels. A blackout fabric does not, by itself, promise a completely dark room.

Before choosing a color, compare samples against the walls in daylight and under evening lamps. A warm neutral can look quite different in those two settings.
