Bought this huge barn door. 8 Feet Tall by 5 Feet Tall. Will set up as sliding door for my sleeping alcove. Any design ideas? Paint? Change Glass? add blinds? Thanks!

    You may have old enough glass in the piece to be wavy / interesting. I just used sliding door hardware on a door I got at architectural salvage and painted it cobalt blue as an art element to the dining room wall it hangs on so I advocate color, but even a crisp glossy black would be stunning as contrast to your lighter walls.
    You can use frost film to keep the light and add privacy. I think the dark floor is great!

      Great buy! I'd personally leave the glass - how much privacy do you need from the rest of your house / bedroom? I'd recommend a tailored curtain if anything. Definitely repaint it with something fun that goes with the rest of your house. Can't wait to see what you do - please keep us updated!

      If the door is solid wood you could strip and sand it -would look great against the parquet floors. For privacy I would add a pale frosted window film to the panes -(www.brume.co.uk do a good selection) to keep this looking chic but simple

      Thanks guys! I'm replacing the floors with a really dark brown wide plank bamboo. Walls will be some shade of light grey. As such, what color would you paint/stain door? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

      If the flooring will be very dark, I would suggest either a darker grey stain or paint (just a shade darker than the walls). if you stain the door a dark brown to match the floor it will make the room too dark. Farrow and ball or Little Greene do lovely shades of greys/neutrals - but don't know how widely available they are in the US.

      Have you considered replacing the glass with mirrors? Also, I would use one of the Benjamin Moore Grey colors on the door Or a crisp white would look really nice with the grey walls and dark floors.

      It can work as long as you keep the rest of the scheme pale, to contrast with the dark floor . This will keep it looking modern which I think is the feeling you are trying to create. You could go with shades of grey in the upholstery and use an accent colour in the accessories -orange works well with grey.

      Honestly, I'm starting from scratch so the door or floor doesnt have to fit into any specific style; pretty open minded. I like Modern, I like Rustic. Maybe a combination if those don't clash? I agree the door would be a nice opportunity to POP. whether be it with paint, or some door accessory (i.e. window treatment for the panes provided i don't go with some variation of frosted glass).

      dressingrooms interiors, I have every intention to keep the rest of the apartment light to contrast with the floor and keep the space looking airy. I love contrast! Do you have any couch recommendations? I love sectionals (but besides that, I'm open with regards to style.

      Its not over the top modern-I would say its contemporary and classic so it won't date but it looks comfy and thats the most important thing when you are choosing sofas

      I love the dark floor - go for it! Great suggestions here for the pop of color and contrast of the furniture- I totally agree that if the glass is salvageable it looks original so stick with it. Keep us up to date with your progress please - sounds like you have lots of fun ahead!

      Nice door indeed,
      keep it as is if you must change the colour paint it I like it the way that is , in the blue . For the privacy , get a panel made using a fabric that is not see trough, look at this door

      Hello! I realize this is a old post from 2013, but I am curious as to how your large sliding door is working out for you? I am considering a door that would be 64" wide X 7' tall, and have been told it will be too heavy & cumbersome for me to use. It will be used for a pantry door.
