Super Nova aka Lee X nova

last modified: 8 years ago

I found the "Super Novas" at my local Whole Foods. The first one I had was pretty good. Not too sweet, but sweet enough. The second one was OK. I think the smoother the skin, the better it taste. Hopefully, the quality will improve later in the season.

Brian - sorry, my post was published before I was done. I got it at Whole Foods. It has potential, I think it's still early in the season.

Denise - I picked up a four winds LxN last spring while searching for a Gold Nugget. Not many people have tasted this LxN yet.

Brian lol. that was the store display. I am not crazy enough to buy that many citrus before I taste it and this early in the season. I was crazy enough to buy the tree before I knew anything about it though. mmmmm....

Brian did I read this correctly? Your LxN tree is arriving in May? what happen to the mantra? must not buy more citrus trees....?

I saw moros at the grocery store too. I will wait a few more weeks to try those. I am NOT buying a other citrus tree....

Oh I thought that this mantra is only applicable during 2017! For 2018, I follow Brian lead and pre order a lee x nova too!

Amy Lol! how many new citrus trees are we allowed in 2018 before we should start reciting the mantra? I do need a lemon tree...

Brian I tried moros before. It is not on my must have list. Must taste better off your tree. I seriously need to buy other fruit trees beside citrus.

I hear you Junk4us how about blueberries the super food . Amy Lisbon lemons are very nice but the tree's have thorns . Internet shopping is making this far to easy .

I love the taste of the moros I buy in the store. It's my favourite orange so far! I'm going to try to buy a Moro tree so I can grow them. The colour is very cool too. Not a typical citrus colour.

I'm kind of interested in all these new varieties they've been breeding.

However, if you look at most of the citrus breeding being done, 90% of it is with mandarins. That's because oranges are much more difficult to breed, with virtually all their seeds being nucellar (same exact genetics as the parent).

Brian - I have 4-5 blueberries, an avocado, a loquat, a jujube, a pomegranate, and an almond tree. The loquat and almond tree will go away in the future.

Dave - I am starting to prefer Cara cara over other oranges. I think if I didn't have so many choices, I will go for the blood oranges.

Parker - Mandarins are also easier to grow. I have a navel but I can't tell when it's ready. it's been sour.

I may have to go back and buy the rest of the super Novas. I got about 3-4 lbs and half are gone already. It's the new favorite in the house along with GN and Pixie.

But Parker, you can use pollen from an orange, right?
