Violet, thanks for the photo! I had something similar in mind, where I would have loved family photos in oversized frames with oversized mats. Because the space is soooooo blank, the size of the pictures needs to be large. Mirrors are a great idea as well!

Beautiful home! My humble suggestion would be a dwarf orange or calomondin tree in the corner next to the door. Would tie in with your carpet and be a nice welcoming entryway piece that adds a fresh and vibrant feel.

i second the gallery on the staircase wall. I don’t think you want to put anything up high on any of the walls.

Soltech -- funny you say that... I had a Christmas tree in that corner over the holidays, and once I put it away, I felt the entry was naked! Will definitely look into that despite my black thumb.

saypoint -- I do think a gallery wall will be the direction I go in... I really would've loved to do some kind of great wallpaper but that's a definite no from my husband. And my dog, Pollock, snuck in that shot without me knowing!

Hamma -- these tapestries are certainly cute! Especially like the colorful bird/floral one. I would definitely want to stay away from something that looked like a quilt on the wall, and more like artwork. Great suggestion!

Either a gallery wall of enlarged family photos or wall art. Either way, go big or go home. I wouldn't hang anything medium size because it will look even smaller from a distance. To make an impact I'd only go with large, HUGE art, 2-3 large pieces. Also, for that table, the current lamps are beautiful but I'd go bigger. As in bigger/chunkier lampshades vs current slim ones.

Wow House -- Thank you for your input! The lamps were from our previous house and I have been toying with getting a larger lamp only on the right side of the foyer table so we don't cover the staircase spindles. I love them, though -- they're metal and lucite and super fun! As for art... pieces will definitely have to be big. Not just because of the size/height of the staircase, but also because most of our other art in our house is super-sized as well.

I would move the console/table under the stairs over a bit if possible to see if you can arrange the current lamps so that the lamp and shade at left don't "overlap" with the stairs and remain along the wall section, if that makes sense. It may be that you need lamps that are not quite so tall. I would also think about adding a mirror above the table and between the lamps.

Becky -- I did move the table and it just doesn't look right when I push it all the way over to accommodate the lamps (too much blank space to the left of it). So maybe the lamps do get switched over at some point -- but I'd like to deal with the big blank walls first!

callankamm, you're very welcome! There are so many options for tapestries out there, you just have to see what will appeal to you...This is just a matter of pure personal preference, but I've always liked the impact of one big piece as opposed to a collection of smaller pieces. A statement piece, if you will. I do think that a tapestry will look very nicely on your big wall.

An entry stairway is the perfect place to include family photos in the house. I would not have them all the same size & so perfect in placement as Violet showed. Adding some objects in different shapes here & there such as round mirrors to repeat the circle pattern in the lovely railing.

This will take time & should not be done in one day. Take your time & live with the changes made to critique them. You have a very large area to work with & therefore can accommodate many shapes & positions. Don't be afraid of visually overlapping items as you mentioned as with the lamp & the stairway as that just adds more interest.

sandradclark -- I am SOOOOOO with you when you mention this is something that cannot be done in one day. I do feel like I will start with some beloved family photos. From there I love the idea of layering different objects, simply because there is so much space that any one thing repeated will simply be "too much." Mirrors and pictures sound like a fun start. Now to actually get those items together and try it out!

Can you remove the two lamps and scoot the table over then hang artwork or a mirror over the table? Or you could put artwork along the wall up the stairs?

Nandina Home -- I can certainly move the table over and remove the lamps, however, moving the table over looks awkward -- there's too much leftover wall space to the left. Definitely looking to hang artwork along the wall of the actual staircase to help break up all that dead space! Thanks for the inspo!
