FRONT DOOR ENTRY HELP

I have a lovely home but the front entrance is awful. I need help with front door paint color, pots, etc.

There is rock trim color to consider. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

We need more guidance. What, in your opinion, contributes to the awfulness of your entry? Just the colors?

The first thing I would do is remove the pedestal pots from right next to the front door. They’re nice pots, I think, but they do not belong there. Too close to the door and just not enough room on the stoop. Plus, what plant would look natural there? It’s real shady.

No commitment to any kind of style whatsoever. Yes, the colors, but I’d love to

have some kind of identifiable style. It’s so vanilla...boring. Should the trim around the door be painted the same color as the door? I also have a new door lock set and kickplate in a dark bronze. I can exchange that without any problem.

Could we see the entry from further back so as to get some context how it fits with the house? From what little I can see, it looks like this is a large, formal-ish home.

Agreed, seeing more of your home's exterior would be beneficial in creating ideas that would enhance your entry.

Is there a light above the door? Looks like you have room for an impressively-sized pendant light, centered in front of the half moon window.

Edited to add: as I study the door, it occurs to me that the brass kick plate seems inappropriate in this setting. (Your wall lights and house numbers are not brass.).

Also, have you tried the door as a plain white? And since there’s no window in it, how about a big bright cheerful wreath on it? Check on Etsy. As deep as your porch is, a wreath should be safe from the weather.

Here's your door with pale grey slapped on it, close to the color of the pillars.

I think lightening the door would be best to brighten up the space. Paint the trim to match all other exterior trim. I like the idea of a wreath to add color. A great one would be a green box wood wreath.

I also agree about the bronze kick plate, unless it matches your exterior lighting fixtures.

I though5 I posted thisminfo earlier but it never posted! :/

I am dumping the brass. It is awfully beat up plus I just don’t like it. I have a new lock set and kick plate in dark bronze like the light fixtures. Yes, there is a recessed light above the door. Large pendant idea is good.

    Thank you!

Any thoughts on the step area? Should it be painted? I know I need a new larger mat.

Your entrance has great bones and I love the stone work. Take away the tiny rug and if you want a rug it should be of a much more substantial size, rectangular.
The pots on either side need to go, they are too small and neutral. If you want to have pots they should be much larger, dark cast iron. such a low light area means plants don't belong there so fill with dried element s if you like that look. Maybe lighting needs to be improved by installing pot lights that would illuminate the area beautifully.
A brighter paint on the front door night also help spruce up the area and bring focus to the home entrance.

The step area ispainted concrete. It isn’t offensive...just kind of ‘meh’. I thought it might distinguish the step from the rest of the area. Does that make sense?

You could add new glass to your existing door and sidelights. That may help give some style. The addition of greenery in the ceramic urns may also help breath some life into the entry. If you find another glass collection from zabitat.com that you would like to see applied to your entry, just submit it through our Design Services Team.
