What do you mean when you say too late? It depends what you want to grow? Winter crops are fine but I'd stay away from any warm weather crops that need longer warmer days until end of Feb-early March.

I often wait until February to start ws perennials. Only those needing long stratification periods get started earlier. Tender annuals get sown late March through early May.
