Two thoughts - 4" lights don't produce a lot of light (I would add more), and placing them behind your head will create shadows (place over countertops). Placing them closer to the cabinet faces also adds illumination to the face of the cabinets. If the face of the cabinets (or a large wall) is in the shadows, the room will feel dark. Look how many 4" lights we did on the kitchen below - both to illuminate the face of the cabinets and to provide lighting over the work surfaces.

A work surface should get 450 foot candles. What led bulb are you using in the 4" cans to get that.

I would concur with Edmond kitchen and bath on those observations. Regarding the dining room....I would include at least 4 pot lights in that area...you don't necessarily want your chandelier to work that hard to light the dining room adequately. If you might be placing a credenza in the room or artwork on the walls pots would help in that regard.

Thank you everyone! Edmond, would you recommend going to a 5 or 6" pot? I'm not sure on the bulbs yet Dan but I guess it kind of depends where this lighting set up takes me! So taking into everyones help here, this is what i quickly drew up. I'll work on the symmetry and design in the space but as far as the amount of lighting, how does this look? The room has the intention of staying fairly open Jim but I agree about the chandelier.
