Good people of the container garden section!

I am in Western New York (Zone 5B), and I was wondering if it would be feasible to grow gooseberries in containers, as I rent an apartment with a second-floor screened porch (that is almost as cold as outside but screened from wind; it gets very good light). I was thinking of getting a small, already started plant and putting it in about 3 gallons of aerated soil. Would these be able to survive on a porch in the winter? I know they can survive outside above Zone 3, but am slightly worried about containers making them more cold-sensitive. I am finding it difficult to get good advice about gooseberries in containers generally....
