Need help with decor

I need help with some decor ideas. This is my first home and I've never really been very creative. I was thinking of adding drapes but not sure what color. I was also thinking of adding a rug. Maybe like a cream with a pretty pattern? I'm just all over the place and need some guidance on colors and what goes with what.

I found myself liking alot of pictures that were pretty neutral in color. I like farmhouse, rustic, style decor .

    or even something like this?

You say you like farmhouse, rustic decor but the first picture you posted is neither. The second is more farmhouse or rustic but still pretty formal.

Try searching for either curtains that really sing to you and then use that as your guide when choosing the area rug. OR visa versa. You need to find YOUR inspiration piece for your room - then we can it from there.

First inspirational picture shows lots of patterns. I'm not a fan of how they mixed them-not the greatest example-but would it be save to say, for our purposes, that you like patterns and are leaning toward simple, geometrical ones?

Second picture introduces textures rather than patterns, except for art.

You can go both directions, and you can borrow from both too.

I personally think that your style (and the style shown) is fairly traditiional..transitional as they call it..with just few more rustic elements. Do you want to keep it that way, or you want to lean more rustic? First pic for example looks pretty polished to me..nothing there spells rustic so much.

You've created a nice neutral base, I like your chandelier..you can choose many ways to go about your room, just decide which one is more what you're trying to spell..the mood, the vibe. You can decide that you like some polished elements and some simpler ones, and get a nice mix of these too.

I'd analyze what draws you the most in the pictures..these or others..the colors? the sense of calm? certain elements? certain shapes? Do you want your room to be casual and relaxed, or more elegant?

Meanwhile some suggestions for you..as I don't know your budget they're inspirational, at this point

Check out these rugs from Serena and Lily. Nice collection. I can't afford the ones I like most:) But maybe you can. In any case, it can provide you with ideas

Drapes/curtains would soften your room tremendously. I usually link to curtains from Anthropologie-but this time, decided to go with Ballard Designs..I think it's closer to what you want, stylistically (even though Anthropologie has all kinds)

more casual with a pattern, interest added with detailing:

    less casual, with a pattern

    https://www.ballarddesigns.com/bingham-printed-damask-panel/rugs-drapery/drapery/all/229447

that's kinda cool..chinoiserie)) but not rustic, no. still, can lean several ways..you can pair it with smth luxirious or let it shine, and tame it with simpler things. Also the fabric itself is casual.

very simple background panel..great choice of colors. if you want something that rather dissappears into your walls, brings softness..but doesn't take too much attention:

I love linen for drapes..several choices of fabrics here, I hope the link shows the parchment one (sorry my laptop is slowly dying..can't download pics thus links)

    https://www.ballarddesigns.com/suzanne-kasler-signature-13oz-linen-drapery-panel/rugs-drapery/drapery/all/270856

etcetera. They have quite a lot of drapery..I skipped the ones with not so great reviews, or the custom options with choice of 200 fabrics but look into their selection. Maybe some will speak to you louder than others. Will provide some insight on what direction appeals to you more..or so I believe.

Its's hard for me to see your colors exactly(wall seems gray while chairs seem more beige), so I might be slightly off with my links..but mind your colors, when going neutral it's very important. Either repeat one of them, or find a color that works with both, or a pattern that contains both. No need to match precisely but they should be similar. It seems to me you have a good eye for colors, so I believe you'll be fine.

If you decide to mix patterns after all-don't repeat the mistake of the first pic..their patterns are too similar, in many ways but especially size wise..instead of eyes travelling with interest, it kinda throws one off and eyes start moving too fast..makes it harder to enjoy. (I love patterns, personally, so I'd rather take my time enjoying))

Think about colors that you love..there are many neutrals. Blues can be perceived as neutrals, greens can be..metallics like gold or silver can be also almost neutrals)) You can decide to add color, and still have a very mild, calming space.

Start looking for art..no hurry here, should be something that you love. Maybe you already own something you love. But nothing makes place as personal as art, collections (maybe you're going to add a console where you can display things you love), unique things that tell your story.

Hope it helps some. Take your time, enjoy tremendously..it'll be fun. Pretty room!

I think thats where i was confused on what term means what. thank you for clarifying it for me :) it helps to know that its called transitional. Now i know what to say when people say what style i like. Thank you so much for the links! i loved the drapes that were on there. Now the hard part, picking which one i like better. Thank you for the advice :) it helped tremendously!
