Leaf Babies & Dividing A Violet?

Well I planted 6 leaves, exactly 1 month ago, and I just saw my first tiny leaves! I planted 4 of my fantasy 'Gee Pee', 1 is showing the first leaf! The other one is my 'Cosmos Legend-2' that revered back to solid blue. But I like the plant, and the bloom. So I want more, and maybe it will go back to a fantasy???? It is showing 2 tiny leaves one of the two leaves I planted, in 2 in pots.

Question is, how long will it now take to grow and fill the pots they are each in? You ALL encouraged me to do this,...well....edge me along with advise on what to do now. Feeding/light/Dividing/etc.

The other question is, I have a BIG potful of 'Neon Fantasy', in a 4in pot, But it is all plants. Like 8 or more plants. I can't find the 'main plant'. Not a flower in sight. But it came to me with 1 bloom, so I know it blooms true. Do I split it apart into separate plants,...and THEN I will get blooms after they grow in separate pots?? Or leave it as a mass plant, and I will get blooms....one day?

I have never split a violet, I assume there is a correct way to do this? So if that is the thing to do,....how do I split it apart and save as many plants as possible.? Whats the technique? Thanks.

You can totally disassemble the plant and root the crowns, Remove all buds and blossoms - to speed up rooting.

Your former Cosmos Legend is not going to return back to fantasy... sorry. Do not waste space unless you absolutely want to raise another dozen of starters to bloom - and get them all blooming solid blue.

Try something else - you will be ordering Blue Dragon from LLG in spring - and paying shipping - so you can as well select a variety with puff fantasy.

BTW - USPS just raised the shipping costs - ebay shipping will go up too.

i am not going to have to separate them for a month or more i assume, they are JUST showing 1 TINY leaf each. I LOVE the huge plant and solid HUGE blue flower i get from that Cosmos Legend.

I bought another 4in pot of Cosmos Legend that bloomed true. I am just getting the first new bloom stems now, it arrived with wilted flowers on it, but they were true. But I planted 4 of my 'Gee Pee' fantasy, and now i have my first leaf from one of them. I want a lot of them. Sell those on EBay in spring, I hope.

I am also trying to figure out how to separate a packed 4in pot full of 'Neon Fantasy'. It is only growing, no blooms, but it arrived with the right fantasy blooms on it. Now i have to try and divide it! I think that will get me blooms, if it isnt just growing this mass of plants!

I will have 8-10 big plants, if I separate them right. Right?

PBL, can you post some pics?

    Yup, pic-pics please.

Gee-Pee gives a good repeatablility, I think out of 10 starters only one had no fantasy.

Beware - you grow starters from a good fantasy mama plant, sell them on ebay - and darn things will start blooming solid... 2 months later... And your buyers will be cursing you blue on all forums...8-((

When/if I manage to grow them to first blooming size, i will make sure they bloom true BEFORE i sell them, that way i can say that they are 'blooming true'...worth a lot more:)

My BIG 'Neon Fantasy' Violet is the one I am dividing tomorrow, going to just have to pull them apart, and pot up into the 2in pots I have, and see who lives...hopefully all of them.

THEY will bloom true. So I will have a lot of 'Neon Fantasy' to sell on EBay very soon. And a lot bigger than most sellers have up for sale! Not just leaves.

well it didnt go to well, I have 4 'plants' in a plastic container, covered in saran wrap with holes, hoping they root/grow. Put on rooting hormone dust.

They are in 2in pots, with a root or two, or none, and the 'main plant' is a tiny plant, it was such a mass of plants, I lost a lot of it. I dont have room to root 50 leaves. So they are gone. Or tiny micro plantlets. The 'main plant' is under my grow lights. I got like 7 plats, but I saved 4, that we of any size. to see if they root in and grow. I found 1 bloom stem on the 'main plant', saved it, I am hoping it will bloom!

Sounds like they'll make it with the care you're giving it though. I can relate...no room for all those leaves you take off.
