It depends on what your growing zone is. Don't start them too early or they'll get leggy in midsummer. I like them just ready to bloom so I start them in my greenhouse in mid April to set out at the end of May. The plants may have 1 bloom or only buds then. If you look at your seed package it says start seed 6 to 8 weeks early and set out after all frost is gone
