Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon powder on your moist paper towel. It will prevent fungal growth which can be a problem sometime. Also wring the paper towel well. It should be just damp and not soggy.

You're aware that they won't produce true-to-type Clementine right? If your goal is to have a fruit that tastes the same as what you ate you may be disappointed, and it will take several years before it's strong enough to support fruiting.

I misunderstood what you meant by not growing them 'for fruit'. No insult intended.

Actually the only citrus seed that I would ever consider planting, are varieties that do not come true from seed. The others I can easily buy. When a not true from seed germinates you have a one of a kind never seen before tree. Unfortunately, they almost always produce an inferior tree, but every now and then a marvelous tree with marvelous fruit. Example the Eureka lemon.
