Ditto on easy closets. I did basic planning via their planner, but we used real wood and built custom in site.

For these things being MDF or plastic, those sites sure cost an arm and a leg. Saved $ by bypassing them.

I did opt for pine though - log home here.

I used Easy Closets for my sons closet system and have no complaints. They are a great company to work with and their designers are great.

I used Easy Closets as a guide. DH and I measured our things and how much space we need now plus "room to grow". Then we gave our plans to our carpenter. He reviewed and made a few suggestions (adding additional shelves where it made sense). Now, he's building everything to our specs - all wood with some cedar.

I'm short, so this worked out great - I can make sure I can reach what I need to easily. DH is tall, so some of his usable space can be higher than mine.

If you have a Container Store near you, their Elfa brand is also an option. They now have wood shelving and drawers as an option.

John Louis, they are wood and come in 12” or 16” depth. John Louis

For those of you who ended up having wood shelves built, was the price difference significant between wood versus easy closets?

I think it depends on the complexity. I am gutting our pantry to install wood custom shelving and my current quote is in line with the Easy Closet system. The reason I selected that for my sons closet over having them custom done is I wanted the flexibility to change it around. The plus of Easy Closets is that you can switch out hanging racks for shelves very easily and change the heights.
