I love blue and yellow, so I would pull that navy(?) out of the rug and onto the drapes. I know you said you don't want dark colors, perhaps you can place them on the outskirts of the window, so they are not blocking the light?

I too would suggest pulling another color out from the rug to use for the drapes to keep it from getting too yellow....maybe the bone if you want to go lighter...I think the white is too stark. And I know you didn't ask, but it looks as if the round object to the right of the window would look better if lower on the wall, esp to balance the art on the left.

I know you said you like the white sheers, but I'll just throw this out anyway...might you consider something else like wood blinds? The sheers are very traditional vs. your more modern furnishings. You can then use a light fabric for the side panels and get the best of both...

Since you love the fall colors, why not go for a pumpkin color for the drapes?

I would consider painting the walls a Greige type color if there is something like that In the rug. It could go a long way towards cooling off the color intensity. Something that will coordinate with your gray pieces without being itself more gray.

Maria, the white curtains is from Restoration Hardware, but it is warm white.

Having a set of custom drapes made will improve this a lot.

Raising the rod to where the fabric of the drape is at least 6" above the window with the rod above that is a standard in custom drapery. The photos provided by the other designer are great.

However don't forget you will want to stack the drapery off each side of the window. You have a lot of space on the walls and can take them at least 10" off the side of the window if not 15"

This will allow you to stack the drapery off the side and make the window more dramatic, bring in more light, fix the proportions etc.

Although ready made drapes can be more reasonable we often are able to beat the price of catalogs and on-line providers. So even if it costs a little to get a designer or a workroom out to give you and estimate it will be money well spent.
