earlier flowering annuals?

Hello. . .

Any suggestions for an earlier flowering annual that I could add to a zinnia bed? I'd like something that doesn't get too bushy so as not to smother the young zinnia and that would flower in June in 6B / 7A. I don't care if it poops out late in summer, i just want to some flowers for that point where the bulbs and peonies are crapping out for the season and the zinnias and dahlias are still growing.

I'm thinking of:

bachelor's buttons. I've never grown these so I don't know if they could smother the zinnia or when they bloom, only that they are listed as "hardy annuals" that are planted early.

Poppy. Same as above and add to that I don't know if shirley poppies, peony poppies, california poppies, breadseed poppies, etx etx are what I would be looking for.

Snapdragon. I've grown these, they are sort of bushy but I don't htink they would be aggressive enough to smother zinnia? the downside of these is they have to be started indoors VERY early, up potted and up potted to be a success.

Any suggestion?
