Beautiful cabinets, but the trim work is pretty traditional. If you're looking for a way to update, I'd keep the cabinets, but see if you can remove that moulding at the top. Then remove the granite backsplash and replace with tile that is in your style/ color palette.

That is a natural cherry cabinet. It has mellowed a little with age... those are beautiful cabinets - the doors appear to be solid wood - not a veneer.

I would move in and get settled with your stuff in the house before making any decisions....

I think a big change would be to pull the backsplash down and put something different and maybe install some decorative pendant lights....

How old are the cabinets. If they are cherry then they will continue to darken. It's a very dark space with all the dark granite.

That kitchen looks better than 95% of those folks post here: functional and attractive. Agree it is natural cherry with a clear finish. It will stand the test of time, too. As others have said, the only thing I would consider changing is the backsplash.

The wood floors just make it too much wood for me. So much brown.

But I agree with removing the trim at the top, and definitely replacing the backsplash with a lighter surface.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think the backsplash would make a world of difference! There's nothing I hate about it-- just felt like it could use a little refresh. It would likely be a project down the road. They are definitely nice quality wood cabinets-- not sure on the age. I don't believe they are original to the home which was built in '81. My guess would be 10-15 years old. Any backsplash recommendations?

It looks like there is a 4" splash, in addition to the full backsplash...all of the same material - which is a little odd. Can you take a close-up pic?

I used to have Red Birch cabinets, they looked exactly like that. I had to search out a company who used it. The positive thing about them to me is that, unlike cherry, they didn't darken.

Agree with Debbi, they are most likely cherry natural with clear coat.

Looks the the granite countertop is extended by using granite tiles above. I'd change that,add under cabinet lighting and enjoy the natural cherry cabinets.

Beautiful timeless kitchen! I agree that they look to be natural cherry. Besides the backsplash, I think that changing out the knobs would be a wonderful upgrade. The current knobs aren't anywhere as nice as the beautiful cabinets. I love the quality of my Jeffrey Alexander hardware. These Modena satin black nickel knobs would dress up the cabinets!
