Need ideas with entryway layout.

I hope these pictures are helpful. I really love that rustic farmhouse style and plan to slowly change my decor to that so I decided to begin with the entryway. Our main entrance is through the laundry/mud room so this is the guest entry and would like it to feel warm and inviting. What size and shape entry rug would be appropriate? I was thinking 3x5 since it’s 5’ from one sidelight to the other. Would love to do a bench on the long walk but not sure it would look right since the bench would face right into the formal living room, facing the sofa. Also, not sure what size art or wall decor would look appropriate on that large 2 story wall. I really would like to have this one area of my home finished since I have been here for 7 years and feel that the house still looks/feels so bare. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Melissa, I definitely agree that a rug would look nice in this entry. It’s difficult to judge sizes in your pictures, so if you need an opinion, it would be helpful if you could use blue tape (something that won’t stick too badly of course) on the floor to draw out a 5x7 rug by the door? I would also think of adding a large mirror above the sideboard by the door, and maybe a chair on the side.

Is the entry console staying? I would look for a great piece of art to go over it. Something about 2/3 the length of the console. Don't worry about the wall height-keep everything below the top of the door frames. As far as a rug, I would try a 3x5, 4x6, or even a 5x5 square. I don't think you want to get too close to the stairway.

Thank you. The console is going to be replaced with a sofa table I have that is about the same size, I can post a pic if you like. Love the blue tape idea, I will try that out too! Any ideas for I will show you a picture of the room that is directly on the other side of the wall the console table is on, maybe you can help me decide what shape mirror, or art would go over the console.

I like your current console rather than the sofa table. The sofa table will have more empty space underneath it and you are trying to "fill" up your space. Any good looking mirror will do; it doesn't have to fill the whole space. You can add art work on either side of the mirror too.

Ok, here are the pictures of the wall opposite the console and the sofa table. I was planning to paint the black piece an old white and change the copper to more of a silver with ceiling tiles.

So the sofa table you show is what you're switching to in the entry? It think it has enough bulk to fill it up. What is the length of it? Budget for art? As a suggestion, I would lower the art over your sofa so the back is about 5" above the top of the sofa. Same with the sconces. It's just a smidge off center of your sofa as well.

Yes, the sofa table is 55.5” and the correct piece is 60”. Budget for art, probably up to $350. Thanks.

What do you like as far as art? Abstract, landscape? You seem to have a modern country look going on. Do you like art that relates to that theme?

Are you only replacing the one piece with the sofa table? Or are you replacing both pieces?

Yes, I like that modern country/farmhouse look very much and would like to continue with that look. I am at a loss for art that would be big enough for that wall, at what size shape. I am only replacing the black piece for now. Since the entry way is open to the formal living area, should I get a simple rug with some texture over pattern? I plan to get a patterned rug in that living room eventually. Thanks!

Does something like this appeal to you?

As far as a rug, if you're planning a pattern for the living room, I would stick with something tone on tone with a pattern in it that is in a color you know you want to have in the living room rug. Once you find art you love, you can pull a color from there for the rug. Since it's an entryway, you may want to look for indoor/outdoor so it's easy to keep clean.

Yes! I do like that. I will look into this website as well. Thanks for the indoor outdoor rug suggestion, will definitely look into that too.
