A disappointing Graffiti

This is my second year attempting to add a beautiful Graffiti to my collection. I have purchased from two different sources and all three bulbs from two sources have been solid green. I'm not sure if the red whiskering only appears under ideal conditions? This bulb was very stressed. The scape underwent some cold damage in shipping as you can see. It's a pleasant color as I didn't have any evergreen pollen and I wanted to try some green and papilio crosses this season, but this is not the Graffiti I fell for.

The 2 bulbs from last year are still dormant. Is there hope that whiskering will come under better growing conditions or am I more likely just going to have to acceot her as she is. perhaps her shape will be more pleasant next year?

Has anyone been successful in obtaining the "real" Graffiti? If you did, what source did you purchase from?

Way back in 2009, Graffiti was first released to a bulb company in Canada. I imported several bulbs of it from that company and this was how those bulbs bloomed. They were beautiful then being first release bulbs. After that Graffiti bulb quality has gone bad.

hi there - I didn't get from your post if this was an established bulb? It sounds like it wasn't and I bet you get better results next year! I do think your shape is strange though - even if the color varies the shape shouldn't?

Good luck with trying a cross!

I have purchased Graffiti in the past and I never had any luck either. In my case, the bulbs just seemed weak and after the first flowering, it just seemed to whither away.

One reason why I avoid South African hybrids now Fred. Many of them are also virused.

"Whiskering" is more expressed when the air temperature is lower during forcing.

Hi JL, this bulb is not established. I bought two bulbs from another company last year and those two bulbs also bloomed green. I thought if I used a different source perhaps the result would be different.

Maria, if mine had looked anything like yours, I should be very happy indeed. Shame! Yours were gorgeous!

Fred, my two from last year seem to be strong, but no sign of a scape. My forcing temps were not ideal because they are just in my home. After danger of frost has passed, I will move them out and hope that the lower spring temperatures will help scape formation.

Could it possibly be Green Dragon, I notice that the throat looks greener as it matures.

Just a thought.....

I also was considering it but thought it was unlikely because Green Dragon is supposedly out of production. However, she is looking the part and perhaps this is a happy mislabel. I still don't have my beautiful Graffiti, but I have read that Green Dragon has vigorous offspring. Perhaps my pollinations will take. I think it is fair to say she is not Graffiti.... but who is she?

Well, she is nice anyway and maybe it will be easier to id her next year when the bulb is established and shows its full potential.

What is the one with the beautiful purple stem you have there?
