Nice quilts! The ones you posted last time were equally nice.

What size do you make them?

I can't figure out exactly how to word this question, What is their purpose? Are they for snugging up in? Do the kids put them on their beds?

The reason I ask that question is that I really enjoy making children's quilts (I spy is my favorite.) I would like to decide on a good size that would be easy to quilt on my DSM, but big enough to be useful as a snuggle quilt, a "dragger", a tent or whatever.

I would appreciate your insight.

Very nice quilts.

Not sure exactly how they use them at St. Jude’s. When I drop them off I see kids in the lobby with lap blankets, so perhaps that way.

When we made them to cover the neonatal incubators at the hospital, they were 30” square. For our charity sale we usually did 40” square.

They asked me to make some bigger ones for the older kids at St. Jude’s, which I’ve done. Can’t recall the measurements, but one width of fabric was not wide enough for the back, so maybe 43” wide and 55” long.

All of these are done on my domestic machine and/or by hand. I usually send my big quilts out to be long-armed.

I hope to be making more children's quilt for a head start program in Baltimore. They give each child a lap quilt, and I believe a small bucket with age appropriate books...the child's (and parents) instructions are to set up their own reading corner at home...love that idea!

bkay, I donate a lot of quilts to various places and various sizes. These sizes are basically what is used as what we've been told, they'll find a use for it no matter what size it is. Keep in mind, these are all approximate sizes and just guidelines. Child's wheelchair: 36"X36"-40" Child lap quilt: 40-45"X50"-60" VA wheelchair: 36"-45"X48"-60" Adults in shelters: 50"
x 72" or larger

For
children's homes:45"- 50" x 72" for their bed. Our NICU quiltlets are 24"X36" per the NICU nurses......I imagine it's different for each hospital.

I hope this is helpful.......comfort is needed everywhere.

Fabric and orientation make a big difference. Double duty pattern. The best kind.

Thanks, but really not a pattern! I bought some special rulers and cut a big bunch of fabric. Then one of the ladies in my guild pointed out that the quilt was going too far in the pastel Easter direction. Not wanting to waste all that fabric, I cut the pieces down, sorted them in color groups and came up with these. Just laid out what I had as best I could and voila!
