I've never heard of using root cuttings for rose propagation before this post, but I have heard of broken pieces of Dr. Huey roots growing into new plants when people dig up grafted roses.

Maybe one of those people can chime in on how fast those root suckers grow after pulling up the main plant.

From my readings, they can make plants at least as fast as stem cuttings and maybe faster. I will be interested in hearing from those who have OGRs that sucker, as well.

I have an order of ogrs coming so I can answer, but it will be a few years. =P

Mercy...something else I'll have to try! Y'all have to stop with all this good info! I am certainly have to read more about this!! I do know that their are shrubs (sweetpire) that you can do this easily with..why not roses?

I have dug up a number of own-root plants to transplant to another site. When I returned to the original site of the rose a month or 2 later, I have seen 2-5 own root roses. I now have 2 new plants of Allux Symphony and 5 new plants of Lion's Fairytale. They seem to grow as quickly as plants generated from stem cuttings.

So exciting!
