Playing with white sheets

Ok not exactly playing....most of you know I try not to use chlorine but will when I must. Both boys tested positive for the flu...sigh...blowing snot and drooling in their beds.

My allergin cycle gets to at least 154F. probably higher. I'm torn whether I should use chlorine or not. I think my washers temps and a hot dryer and definitely a hot steam iron is plenty to reduce the germs enough to be safe.

My question is.....wait I don't have a question. ..I just felt like talking Haha

Sorry about the boys. Hope you got the flu shot. You know the iron is enough to kill those germs. Lol

    https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/pdf/seasonal-flu/contamination_cleaning_english_508.pdf

According to the CDC influenza can live up to 24 hours outside the body and detergents can kill the virus. It's not a particularly durable virus. For the flu there's no need to bleach if you can wash and give the sheets a timeout.

If your boys had diarrhea from the flu, it'd be safe to assume that fecal matter got on the sheets and they need to be bleached.

    Well thank God...no poop. Haha

Ya you kids know I understand what I'm doing I just question myself sometimes or I just wanted to start a post. LOL.

Jan did you think my sheet post here is unrelated to this forum?? Haha hang around it will get better.

As for poop on the sheets....its very likely I would wash them by hand...wearing a suit of armour and than give them a boil wash on the stove top. I do take clean sheets seriously..LOL.

Heather. I did not get the flu shot. I know...I know

I hear the shots not very protective again this year and it did nothing for the boys.

I spoke with a few doctors one actually is a consult for the CDC who told me the media is scaring folks this year talking about the flu death rate but not explaining that much of its do to folks getting very sick and than becomming too dehydrated...this doctors advice for the boys...lots of fluids and keep the fever down which dehydrates one even more. I'm being careful but taking care of sick kids and OMG now Amiee has it....I will probably get it. Both my sons are on standby in case I get sick.

I am surprised Chips asthma isn't acting up worse than it is..so far I am keeping it under control but Amiee just got sick today and I'm fearful for her considering her condition. I won't sleep a wink tonight...actually I'll probably lay on her bed and doze keeping a watchful eye...like a lioness.

    All of you take care

    >>> Well thank God...no poop. Haha

Oh, poor Mama P! It is a sad statement when “no poop” is as good as it gets. You hang in there. This has been a terrible flu season. Our doc says the vaccine was basically useless.

mamapinkyO, it struck me as funny because I usually sit down sometime during the day to look at any new or continued design dilemmas. wondered what the white sheets would involve sooo, I read it and the end cracked me up. about just wanting to talk...I loved it because I was expecting the usual (advice). the other thing I am now running into is some of the dumb arguments and crabby people...jeesh, sometimes it's reading a person's homelife.. even a decorators can be snappy..I am very light hearted so your was good...

Jan. Has my post gone into design dilemmas?? I posted it in the laundry forum. ..haha

well. that's what I thought I always checked in to..that's why I didn't understand the topic of white sheets .this is crazy.. will check.
maybe I was in laundry. I check this stuff and don't know what I am doing. but your post was by all the other design topics that I follow..

Sorry to hear that mama! The flu is horrible this year. The flu shot was not as effective this year for Influenza A. They cultured it differently and it was less effective. As you know, bleach is your best bet. My brother just got over a case of mono and everything in our house has been bleached, wiped down with Lysol wipes, etc. I couldn't imagine him having both mono and the flu. So in short, just use the bleach and sleep easy!

Just for general onfo: There is NO bleach in Lysol wipes. There is NO bleach in Clorox wipes. Read the ingredients, folks.

Also, mamaP, please get a flu shot. It is not going to prevent the flu but I understand it makes the flu you get much less intense. Please do yourself a favor. And us. Please.

Yes get the shot. even if you get the flu it will be less intense and it provides herd protection. How are you holding up?

    bumping for mamaP to respond.

LARSI, WHERE ARE YOU? TELL MAMAPINKY TO GET A FLU SHOT!!!!

I didn't take the flu shot for many years ... then started taking it several years ago in my middle/old age, LOL. I haven't had flu since 1985 far as I'm aware. The local newspaper has run reports a few times this season (another today) about flu being rampant. I've had a couple bouts of sniffles-and-cough but no temperature involved and surely not debilitating ... so there's that.

And yeah, "Clorox" wipes and such don't necessarily contain chlorine bleach despite the brand-name. Liquid chlorine bleaches are NOT all labeled as germ-killing products. Some are only for laundry whitening, not sanitizing. Check the label to confirm.

Pat, Larsi is done with this forum.

    He's not coming back.

(I miss him too, very much)

Pat.....I heard you yelling....LOL....OK OK OK..YOU win my sister friend. I'll head over to the doctors office Monday and get the flu shot. I can walk in for this no appointment needed. I promise I'll get it Monday. I've been thinking about it anyway since the media has us all scared. Pat....Thank You for caring.

Heather Thank You! ! And I'm holding up ok...so far. Chip is recovering very well fevers normal for two days hhe's just left with a asthma cough but I'm pleased with his progress..I thought this tiny guy with the asthma would be in the worst shape and although he was so sick its Tim my big robust guy that scared me enough to take him to the ER night before last with a raging headache..I know many people get a headache with the flu but this was severe and I was concerned. Tim doesn't have much of a cough just a small one but has the headache, leg and arm aches sore throat and temp went to 104.1. I'm alternating Tylenol and ibuprofen every 3 hours round the clock for him and at least have the headache just nagging him and fever is under control.

Amiee, (((sigh))) her cough is pretty bad, chills, body aches, fever. While the boys are drinking very well for me I'm having to threaten to get Amiee to drink but I'm getting at least 16 ounces every hour and a half in her. She can not become dehydrated and typically drinks between 80 & 100 ounces of water a day...heart doc insists she be well hydrated at all times.

None of them are eating but I've gotton them to sip at chicken broth...well its Lipton noodle soup from a box which I strain the noodles out of since they only want the broth. I wish I still had chicken soup in the freezer but I'm out and with all these sickos I just haven't the gumption to make any. I haven't cooked a meal in days. Mike threw a burger on the grill and had a salad today. I cooked some white rice and stir fried broccoli, carrots, red and yellow sweet peppers and I ate that for dinner. I'm going to put some steel cut oats in the tiny crock pot to cook over night in case one of the kids want some for breakfast they do love it but I doubt they will be ready to eat.

Oh and Kody is here (Amiees bf) hes going to stay tonight and watch over Amiee while I get some sleep. I pulled the roll a way cot out of the closet and made it up in the boys room which is where I'll sleep tonight so I can hear the boys. Kody will take the sofa in family room which Amiees room is right off of so he can hear her.

I think I just wrote a book. LOL.

Thank you dear friends for your loving support.

Dadoes.. trust me if you ever had the flu..you would know it...just awful.

Yes, I miss him also. It's a shame he felt he needed to leave.

Mama I am sorry everyone is sick and glad you are not. Yes, get the shot. If you get it every year it becomes more effective over time. Besides we all love you here and don't want you sick.

Because I'm over 65 (WAY over) I got the special flu shot for older people -- it's stronger and I forgot the name of it. I did get the flu last year but it was much less severe due to the shot, they say.

Mama, I'm so glad you are going on Monday. I will haunt you if you don't.

And I did not know about larsi leaving. Why? Larsi, we need you!

Pat...Larsi used an acronym that someone found offensive and they reported him to Houzz. I believe this was the second time someone reported him.

He was very upset and decided to delete his account and leave Houzz.

Hi Pat Larsi was called out for using an acronym that someone felt was offensive. I'm sorry he didn't just ignore the new poster. He felt it was the last straw for him. You can find him on Facebook, I set up an account but really never visit. I'm not a Facebook kind of person. I truly miss him.

Also glad you get your flu shot. I got the flu once thirty seven years ago and now get the sot every year. I never want to be that sick again for the lack of a simple shot.

I got my flu shot at my local CVS pharmacy because my doctor's office was out of it. Call any local pharmacy first to see it they have it if you don't want to wait til Monday (hint-hint).

I want larsi to come back. I do not do Facebook and don't want to start. He needs to ignor any criticisms from people who think they know what any acronym stands for. Get a life. Larsi, get back here PLEEEEEZE.

I know there isn't bleach in Lysol wipes. I just used them on non-bleachable surfaces!

Me too, dorey. Just want everyone to know that Clorox wants us to assume their wipes have Clorox bleach in them. I hate that. It's like the "oxi" thing. They think we're all stupid.

And, Mama, just you let us know on here right after you get that shot. Do I have to come down there?

And while I'm at it (and since I can't figure out how to start a new post since Houzz took this GardenWeb forum over) Sister Pink, I live about 45 miles West of Detroit, and one of my college roommates was from Butler and took me to Slippery Rock once upon a time, so I'm kinda familiar with Pittsburgh, and I can find you!

I haven't perused laundry in a bit, and I'm so sorry to hear that Larsi is gone. He was definitely one of great contributors. I'm not sure how to find him on Facebook but, even if I did, the enjoyment was having him as part of the group here. Sigh.

Got it!!!! However I think I'm getting sick but I was fever free so they gave me the shot...owie...they don't feel nice.

Update....Chip returns to school tomorrow. Tim developed Pneumonia as did Amiee. Both are on the Z pak. Tim won't be back to school this week. I'm watching them very close and at the first sign of difficulty breathing were heading to ER as per doctors orders. Mike made a doctor appt for tomorrow...you guessed it...he's sick. Probably flu. He had the flu shot a month ago right before Christmas.

    I'll be back.

Whew. If you or Mike get the flu, the severity will be much less now. Get some sleep!

Mike tested negative for flu. But omg he's so sick. Temp 103 his lungs making horriable sounds...doc wanted to admit him ...he refused...this old goat flat out refused. Tests show infection in right lung. Hes started antibotics steroids and nebulizer. I just called his doc back and she told me if he gets worse tonight call 911 otherwise she will talk him into being admitted in the morning.

    I have a bad feeling.

    I can't do this alone.

I'm tired, hungry, scared and broke...LOL

    Surely he won't....you know...

Mikes sick the kids are sick Matts taking care of his sick gf and son Michaels in hospital...sick. and my moms been gone so long now. I'm trying to stand alone but I gotta tell you I'm scared.

I can do this...because I have to and I want to take good care of my family.

Prayers and healing thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

Sending healing thoughts and positive vibes your way, MamaP.

MamaP think hard good thoughts. If anyone and I mean anyone, like Mike's boss says those magic words, "Let me know if there is anything I can do?" Say YES!!!! Create a list in your head so when someone asks you can tell them immediately. I'll start the list for you,

    • Please go to the store and buy me the folllowing.........

    • Please cook and bring me enough chicken soup for the family.

    • I need ......... from the pharmacy, please get it for me.

    • You get the idea. And don't you dare feel guilty, just ask. I wish I lived near I would be there to help.

    Me too, me too.

Try to see if there is a social worker at the hospital or school who can offer you some advise or help, mamaP. Most hospitals or doctor office or schools or towns have social workers. Please.
