Edible figs are deciduous. I think you might be looking for something like Ficus benjamina, which can grow quite tall (as can the fiddle leaf figs). But be aware that changing the location of this fig from indoors to out and back again will encourage leaf drop. Even moving it to different locations indoors will trigger this response. This plant is notorious for that, although with proper care and in conditions it prefers, the leaves are very rapidly replaced.

In warmer climates figs will keep their leaves year round. If your indoor temperatures stay warm and it gets enough light, it will probably keep it's leaves.

Sorry but edible figs - Ficus carica - are fully deciduous :-) Other types of figs are not. Some evergreen figs grown as houseplants do indeed drop their leaves at the slightest hint of disturbance or stress: too hot, too cold, turning the plant in its pot, moving it from location to location and from indoors to out. But as I stated, if given the proper care and the conditions it prefers,it will releaf almost immediately.

Just an FYI, but deciduous plants generally make very poor houseplants - they need a period of dormancy that typically coincides with winter. That is why they drop leaves. Evergreen houseplants are often from tropical or subtropical climates, need consistent warmth and have no requirement for a dormant period.

Interesting Gardengal. I have Ficus Benjamina, Restusa, and Carica. I just got the Carica this past year. Non of them threw a tantrum moving indoor this winter, fortunately. However, I've gotten mixed information regarding whether or not Carica needs dormancy. I have two: I put one to sleep for the winter in my storm cellar and I kept the other out of dormancy. I guess we will see which handles the winter better!
