Santa Teresa Entry Trees @ FW

I got an email that the entry ST trees are in stock if anyone is looking for one! as far as I know this is the first time in over two years (or ever, i've only been paying attention for the last 2) that they have had entry sized trees available.

https://www.fourwindsgrowers.com/store/mediterranean-lemon-trees.html?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=162&category_id=11

My premium is still holding on by a thread so I and going to hold out hope it will make it.

Thanks for the heads up, Sammers! I see the New Zealand Lemonade in entry size is back in stock also.

Snagged one!! *happy dance* I dropped my phone when I saw the email lol. Sammers, thanks for the heads up :)

Yes! that one has been in stock for a at least a few weeks, I checked in early January and I think I saw it there. Mine is having a terrible time with spider mites and is down to only a few leaves. It did this last year too so I am hoping it will recover again. It crazy that 2/3 of my tress are thriving better than they did in summer and 1/3 are creeping to deaths door... I want to order some new varieties so its hard to think of getting backups when the trees aren't gone yet.

Yay! I am glad your got one Kelley!

Thanks! I know it’s a risk with the temps right now, but I’m too impatient to wait :). If it makes it to summer, I may try to root a cutting for insurance. I wish there were more suppliers of the ST.

If I hadn't pulled the trigger already on the variegated eureka pink lemon I would have ordered the ST.

...and they’re gone. Man, that was quick!

Dave, that one is on my list, too.

So sad. Wanted one too! Sammers just posted 4 hours ago and they are already gone. Must have been a looooooong waiting list.

Weird .. I was on their "notify me" list and I did not receive an email from them. No es bueno.

It still says they have them in stock, I just looked. Debated putting one into my cart, resisted and then closed the page. My mantra....no more trees, no more trees, no more trees. Ohmmmmmmmmm.

Evan - Are you looking at a different page? I am seeing "Out of Stock" for both entry and premium for ST. NZ entry and GN (both sizes) are showing in stock though. I was on a "Notify Me" list for ST from a few months ago.... Maybe they purge this list every month or something?

Jenny, I’m on the principal lemons page, it shows they have entry size available.

    Evan

ST was available on the Principal Lemons page? Maybe it was a bug. They usually never do that.

Nope I’m dumb....I was looking at the New Zealand that’s available....sorry it’s still early, I need more coffee.

    Evan

Mikhail, Evan - you guys may have another chance: they are holding my order for 30 days due to weather. I don’t think the weather will improve much in thirty days or if I should risk the shipping. Sounds like FW has more sense than I do, I just hate the possibility of waiting two years.

    Evan...one more tree...one more tree ;)

Congratulations Mikhail! It’s beautiful! I would give anything for our local Lowes/HD to carry the ST.

I can’t tell you how often I dream of road tripping through California to hit every Costco/HD/Lowe’s and search for all the trees still on my wish list. Or convincing my CA friends to stock pile them for me...I know it’s not possible with quarantines, but a girl can dream.

Alanna, I agree! I have flight benefits through my husband’s company and would jump on a plane in a heartbeat if it weren’t for quarantine (and I could stow it as a carryon :))

Kelley, you’re thinking small - a carry on?!? If I’m going all the way to Cali, I’m bringing home a dozen or so trees. Costco trees are sometimes as low as $17.99 and so much bigger than anything I can get for twice the price. I’d have to drive them home (cue researching companies to pay you to drive peoples cars across the county) or beg my boss to let me charge it to the corporate account (I work for ups, but it would never be allowed). I daydream big...I also have a greenhouse in my daydream and apparently enough time off from work to road trip through CA

Come on, guys! Just move to California! :)

I found this while reading about Santa Teresa lemons - https://love-citrus.myshopify.com/products/dwarf-santa-teresa-lemon-tree

I know nothing about this site. Most likely they re-sell FW trees. Apparently, they are not cheap but at least there is a choice.

I checked out that site. Its checkout page is non-functional so you cannot order stuff.

It looks like the same photo Pearson uses. Probably a FW tree. I called Pearson and they said they weren’t sure if any or how many would be available this year due to the drought. They did add me to a waiting list, but the shipping was going to be $47! I think I will hold out until FW has them in stock during the warmer months :/
  • 8 years ago

Mikhail, I would plant that tree in ground ASAP, that’ll give it a nice long first season in the ground. Great find by the way, take some photos of it once you plant it, we’d love to see it.

    Evan

    Evan, will do! :)

I have a horrendous heavy, hard clay, so I will need to get some local delta soil, which is dirt + sand + 5/10% recycled forest products, to amend it at least a little bit. I live in a new development and they destroyed the topsoil almost completely in order to build houses, so I pretty much have the subsoil.

Haven't been able to post much as I had computer issues the past week.

Evan - no problem! So many of us have locked onto ST for a buy that the hunger for places that have them is strong. lol

OMG Mikhail - literal pictures of your ST cart jump!!! And it was navigating itself through the parking lot too. LOL And from HD of all places. I know where I am, we are lucky to get a half-dried out quart-sized potted meyer on a cart. My closest HD has some nice temperate trees and shrubs and perennials and I load up on those when I go browsing but the tropical selection has been pretty limited. I used to be able to get all sorts of hoyas there too but nowadays, not so much. They do have seasonal offerings of Exotic Angels houseplants but maybe I need to make sure to look early in the season for a better citrus selection.

!!! ST ALERT for NorCal people !!!

I saw an entry level ST lemon tree an hour ago at Lowe's - 5503 Lone Tree Way, Antioch, CA 94531

The tree lost some leaves (hey, those trees never get enough care there) but ST is ST. Call them if you need it, they can put it away for a day I think.

I’ve finally joined the ST club! I know I’ve already posted on the March pics thread, but I’m just so excited lol

Kelley, this is WONDERFUL! Congratulations. Envious. Is it one from Lowes? OK, now I see it was from Four Winds....fantastic! Very pretty.

Congrats! You joined the best citrus club! :)

Thanks guys :). Nancy, I ordered directly from FW back during the “4-hour” sale lol
  • 8 years ago

Kelley, I'm really keeping fingers crossed that FW has some of them waiting to get big enough to sell as entry. Have to check my mail more frequently too!

They didn't even send me a notification email, even though I was on the waiting list. I guess the list is pretty long :) ...

Yay Kelley! I am glad you got one, it looks great too! Mine had some flower buds on it now and I am so hopeful I will get at least one fruit this year!

Thanks, Sammers! Please post pictures if you do :)

Emailed Four Winds awhile back if they would have Santa Teresas later this year. Finally got a reply yesterday and they said in the fall they'd hopefully be available.

I hope, guys, you will get! I was just lucky to buy it at a home improvement store a month ago.

I have seen STs at both HD and Lowe's this year and they were just sitting there. Let's be honest, most shoppers do not even know or care about this variety and it is sad that some people here have to wait years to get it.

I plan on pruning my ST back, if spring ever arrives. I’m going to try and root the cuttings (to eventually give away) or I’m happy to give them up now if you guys can use them to graft. I don’t graft and I’ve never root citrus cuttings before. I was going to do a separate post and ask some questions about it before hand. I got really lucky getting mine, so I want to spread the joy

Alanna, that is extremely sweet of you! Once mine grows large enough to prune, I plan on doing the same - the Genoa too.

There is a commercial nursery for sale down the road from me - I often daydream about a citrus grower buying it and selling all varieties, including STs...maybe I should start playing the lottery lol

Nancy, I emailed Four Winds back in December maybe and asked when they would have STs available - they said hopefully by Spring. Since they were available on 2/2, the fall offerings may be available much earlier - just a hunch.
