Decorating behind floating sofa

We have an open living concept. We are replacing our furniture. The livingroom, dining room and “entry way” are in one area. The space is too large to be all living and dining. I’ve split the living room using the sofa and created an entry way. The entry way has one wall with entry table, one wall with windows (where a bench will be) and the back of a floating sofa. Currently, we have a sofa table behind the couch and I don't want to have another table behind the sofa (too many tables). I’m looking for something different. Plants? Lamps? My husband insists we need something behind the sofa.....

It would help if you have a photo of the space. I say use the "entry table" behind the sofa. The bench as the "entry hall" and nothing on the window wall. But, it's only my vision of the space. Photos really needed.

Adjusting furniture but the large buffet will stay

I think there could be a better furniture layout. Plus, I'd consider a different plan with the benches, buffets, etc. Everything in the space is rectangular.. No smooth edges. Can you show the entire space in a 360 degree? That may help suggest a new layout.

it is really hard to tell from that picture only.. agree with Darzy, can you show the entire space?

I know you didn't ask about this, but your space looks very cold without some large area rugs to warm and brighten the living and dining spaces. The back of the sofa looks rather slanted, and I don't know if a table would look good there. I'm afraid the valances on the windows are rather dated. Everything seems to be brown, would you consider introducing more color with throw pillows, art, etc?

That’s what I am working on. Adding more color, softening some of the rectangle with removing some tables (behind couch and under windows- old) and adding). We replaced the dining table (removed Buffett table to make more room). We went from rectangle to square. We are not fans of round furniture and not where we gravitate but maybe an occasional round table?? Large art in dining will be removed with something with brighter tones. Rugs in our house are difficult- we live in Texas with blowing sand, a 17 year old Senior dauchsund and two cats! The hair.... Lol. But I would LOVE some rugs otherwise. Yes, valances are dated and need to be replaced (with what???). We have new windows but around the windows are ugly.

I am looking to soften the rectangle that we love. Maybe change the wall art? I didn’t realize just how rectangle everything was until Darzy. Thanks! Ideas??

Current 360 view. 2 sets of French doors so LOTS of natural light. A few things are out of place or completely missing since I’m adding, removing and rearranging. Table under window and table behind sofa will be eliminated. I need help replacing. Chair next to buffet is temp. The plant and stand are in a temp spot.

Here's my thought: Your entry is really in your living space so create an entry way using the back of the couch as a wall. The table on the entry wall could be moved to the back of the sofa and then paint that wall a lighter accent color and add some beautiful art, either one large piece or two pieces side by side. Skip other furniture or any thing on the floor in that space. Move the chair in front of the window (so you have a place to put your shoes on or replace the table you currently have there with a bench and shoe storage. Your entry would then become its own, welcoming, free-flowing space.
