Your best bet is to use nylon carpet just make sure it was treated for stain resistance (most come with it already). If you looking for durability look for density to be over 2500.

Stay away from wool carpet in the basement, because of it's natural fibers it needs special care and it can be easily damaged even with a vacuum cleaner. Also, the biggest concern is moisture, wool easily absorbs moisture, so it's prone to moisture and water (if there is a spill, flood, etc) especially in the basement area.
