It appears to be made by Superior Bavaria, pattern Sub22. Replacements don’t have any in stock ATM so they might be interested. Your friend could contact them for an offer, which will probably be on the low side. S/he could also try eBay.

colleen, thanks for getting back. when i did some googling on that plate it looked like it didn't have the value he'd hoped/expected, but i wasn't sure? china is not my area of expertise. he has a bunch of stuff he wants me to research so stay tuned! lol

I don't know anything serious about china other than that I have a couple vintage sets and have experience attempting to get a little more. As others here have pointed out, there is currently little interest in having, using or storing old stuff. I have gone to many country auctions where a family's stuff is all sold. Dish sets generally go for $25 to $50. Obviously, there are some special patterns that still draw interest and they have large google listings. Since collenoz was somehow able to find your set, I was able to see that there were almost NO google links. That makes me think that no one has any interest.

ebay listings don't really give a good idea on a set's worth because many people just see what others have asked for a few dishes, and ask for the same. These listings just sit there forever. 'Replacements' list prices are likewise the price that a desperate host needing a couple plates will pay.

Replacements has the policy that you ship your merchandise at your expense and if it doesn't sell, you must pay to get your things shipped back to you. They also take a very large percentage (can't remember how much, find on-line) so you end up with a small amount.

If you want to find out "worth" go to completed auction sales....either eBay or another site. Asking price means nothing, it's what people actually paid that tells.

hi linda, yeah, i tried that. "superior china" didn't bring up anything? i already told the guy his plates are probably not in high demand. he gave me some watches and jewelry to check out today. unfortunately the watches were seiko, timex, no rolexes.

linda, thanks. those were the prices i was coming up with too. just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing something. it's disheartening to find out your treasures aren't "treasures".
