Mg deficiency. It occurs on new leaves and looks just like that...Silica or anyone else, please confirm.

Laura- I may have this backwards but is it Mg deficiency on older leaves and Mn on new? These are definitely newer. This prob has nothing to do with it as you know I'm so new to this. But Epsom salt is cure for Mg, but if it's possibly is Mn what do I do? Just my Jack's as usual? Thanks so much!

I am glad that I was not the first one to answer. I would have said "nothing to worry about. It is just what new citrus leaves look like when everything is not perfect".

The deficiency is indeed a manganese deficiency. The symptoms of a manganese deficiency in citrus is ---- newest leaves with green veins WITH green border areas to the sides of the veins on an otherwise yellow leaf & leaves of normal size. You can spray a manganese nutrient, if you wish. Jack's fertilizer contains 0.0630 chelated manganese which should take care of the deficiency. The leaves almost always correct the deficiency as the leaves mature. One commonly sees manganese symptoms in many citrus trees, especially during a growth spurt. I would not worry much.

So it is true that young leaves that look like the above picture is caused by a manganese deficiency, but mature leaves means a magnesium deficiency?

I mistakenly have assumed that it's always a magnesium issue. But then again, I have a hard time telling when it's magnesium or iron deficiency also. Nearly all of my young leaves look like that, but usually correct themselves. Where as, when a mature leaf gets veiny, it never really goes away. I've taken to just keeping asteady with a very diluted dose of FoliagePro and seasonal Chelated Iron spray. I'm cautious about over doing it with epsom salts or fertilizer because I've had leaf burn caused by hard water.

Alanna your correct in that magnesium deficiencies show only on the older leaves. Recognizing the deficiency symptom is quite easy once you know what to look for. Magnesium deficiency shows up only on the older leaves. On a magnesium deficient leaf the lower center portion of the leaf develops a green delta (triangle) shape and the tip and sided remain yellow.
