Bedding and rug look beautiful together. I would put an upholstered cushion on the window seat and get new throw pills, both to tie into the colors of the rug and bedding.

Not loving any of the artwork you currently have. (Sorry!) The rest of the room looks lux and special and the artwork does not. I would consider artwork with wooden silver frames to pick up on the lovely lamp. I might go for black and white photos or maps. If this is for guests from out of town to stay in, perhaps there are interesting photos or ephemera of your city that you could frame?

Can you paint the oak dresser white to match the rest of the room? Painting with chalk paint is quite easy.

I also agree with Kendrah idea about a floating side table or using a low, easily move, stool for one.

Maybe paint the inside of the cabinets with an accent color. and hanging side table or tables.

Please don't paint that lovely oak dresser! Charming room.

Those are all great ideas! I agree on the art too! I was just using what I had. I love to go out and shop looking for things. Definitely need a bedside table for sure and a cushion for the built in. My hubby would never let me paint the dresser and I would have to agree with him. I was trying to put warmer pieces in there to help tie the dresser in some how. I do have art of my hometown. That’s a great idea!

What a lovely space for your guests! Do NOT paint the dresser! It does not need to match all the trim, and besides, chalk painting will surely run its course in the future, and you may regret it. It adds warmth to the room. Focus on a nice grouping of photos on the wall or some good art. Something green always warms up a space........a plant in the corner? Also, I agree that you really must make your guests feel at home with a bedside table of some type. It should have room for a book, glasses, and a lamp, or hang a swing arm sconce next to the bed. Nice room!

I agree there are lots of ways to fit a small nightstand in, my bedroom is small and I currently use ceramic stools. A floating shelf could also work.

As far as art, I think a grouping of 2-3 vintage prints would look very nice in your room. It could be of maps, botanical or whatever draws your eye.

In lieu of a traditional bedside table, you might consider a floor lamp/table combo unit. With the metal headboard, one like this might work and you could reach the shelf from the side by the door as you enter the room.

Yet another vote for wall sconces and either small stools or floating shelves. I'm employing these right now in my very modest sized home. They have improved both the function and look of my rooms.
And I'm so glad you will not be painting the dresser. It's beautiful.

One more thing- I have antique iron bed similar to yours. I do not have any art above it. My opinion is that it works better - less cluttered. And with your built in you have plenty of opportunity there for personal touches.

Sorry.... Yet ONE more thought. How often do you use the desk? If not often, you could replace the chair with a stool for dual duty. When you have guests, the stool could be moved bedside as a nightstand for glasses, books, etc. (assuming/visualizing wall sconces for bedside lights as mentioned before)

Love the feel of this room. Very cozy. Our simple and slightly unorthodox recommendation would be a plant box over the bed that beautifully drapes ivy down towards the bed. Something like Pothos or English Ivy would be fun. Best of luck!

I am happy that you have no plans to paint your dresser- it's absolutely gorgeous as is (it appears to be in excellent condition) and it adds a lot of warmth to the room, IMHO. I loved the idea of wall lamps flanking the bed, and I agree that at least one stool, or small table/shelf is a must. A bench of some sort would be handy, I think, for guests to rest luggage, bags or clothing on? As far as art goes, I don't really mind what you have, but you can always add or switch out pieces when/if you find something that appeals more. There is no rush. I think your room is lovely already- after you tweak these few things you may have a difficult time getting your guests to leave ;)

I don't know if you have enough room, but this oak nightstand is 18 inches wide and with the sconces mounted on the wall you would only need one nightstand and not necessarily two. I love your oak dresser just the way it is now. So glad you aren't painting it!

I had to live with family for 3 months and after a week of misery WITH NO BEDSIDE TABLES I stopped being polite and begged her to move things around. So many problems with that guest room led me to redesign my 2nd bedroom so that my guests could feel perfectly comfortable. Here is the list that I created from necessity!

1. 2 BEDSIDE TABLES
2. No dresser needed. A guest will live out of a suitcase or hanging bag. Unless you can put the TV on it get rid of it.
3. An empty closet with a few good quality hangers only
4. The only thing that should be in the closet is an ironing board and iron perfectly mounted on wall inside closet and a luggage rack folded and hung in closet on a hook
5. Clean towels and washcloths for bathroom
6. Kleenex, fragrance free lotion, paper towels on a holder at vanity, dawn soap in soap dispenser at vanity, bar of soap on a self draining soap holder (3m makesa great stick up one)
7. A TV!
8. A cute "Our wifi is" framed sign (plenty of examples on pinterest)
9. PLEASE Get rid of all decorative pillows other than 2 shams. Buy a washable and useable comforter set. Fold a useable blanket at end of bed on top of comforter.

Think function over something that is pretty as a picture.

Live in the room and use the bathroom for a couple of days and see what is lacking. Use it on a workday when you need to feel most efficient.

I like the dresser but if it were me....speaking as a former guest...I would remove the mirror and hang somewhere in the room where the reflection is something you want to reflect and put a new flat screen on stand on dresser. This is a guest room...think HOTEL. Even if you are not the TV in the bedroom types, like people I know...your guests may be. Also move dresser to left and center on small wall. Get it out of the corner. Can the rug be switched the other way? Not an expert there but something makes me want to turn it. Rug is pretty with the bed though.

Nice room. Is the door located by the head of bed the bedroom entrance or closet? Try to move bed away from being directly in front of entrance door if possible.

Hey C Renee, Absolutely! This is an example of a live pothos plant in a plant box on the wall. One of the planters actually has a pineapple growing in it too!

This customer went with a black Aspect plant light and a black plant box but I would recommend a white plant light or wood/ natural plant box for your guestroom.

This is the white Aspect plant light in both a bedroom over a lemon tree and in a living room over a dwarf olive tree. But I think the addition of a matching plant box and some beautifully draped ivy would really add a touch of life and color to your already beautiful guestroom. Best of luck!

It would be really nice to see some type of bed side table, even if it is small. Also, lamps or sconces on either side of the bed. It also looks like you might want to choose more coordinated artwork to go with the room, and perhaps a chair to be placed in the room. Those are beautiful ideas Bayberry! Someone suggested an oak stool as a side table that can also be pulled up to the desk. I thought that was a great idea and would bring the oak to that side of the room. I’m currently looking for one. Not having much luck! I agree on the art. I’m having the bright teal bird art framed in silver wood with and matted. My daughter painted that so I’m trying to make it work. The other big painting could probably go.

Until you can move a tv in there, consider a compact basket with the latest issue of your city's monthly magazine ( if there is one) if your guests are from out of town, a map of the local attractions is helpful, especially if they plan to do sightseeing ( perhaps when you're at work) . A few books are also a nice touch.

There are some lovely drop down bedside tables that would fit your space and could be folded up during the day. I've seen one where an ingenious person put artwork on the side that shows when the table is up, essentially camouflaging the table until it was needed.
