white spots on sugar maple, first winter after transplant

The sugar maple is experiencing the first winter in Toronto after transplant from a nearby tree farm. I start noticing some white spots on the branches and green color on the trunk. Not sure if this is some sort of decease and should I worry about it? thanks.

Really need closer, more detailed photos to confirm but I strongly believe what you are seeing are lichens and/or some moss or algae. They are using the tree only as a support system and are harmless.

The green stuff does look like lichens or some sort of algea, but the white spots I really have no idea. thanks for your help!

Young Acer saccharum, sugar maple frequently have this appearance. Bark changes as the tree matures.

You might want to look into structure pruning while the tree is still young and branches are small. Here's a link to information on this:
