It is lacking character besides the pendant lighting. You could remove the quartz backsplash & add a fun color tile. As for the paint, yes it needs to be changed to add some life to the space. Also the panels on your sliding door could be changed to incorporate some color.

I wouldn't call the paint color a mistake, but if you were trying to get the cabinets or something else to "pop," then I might have chosen a color to give more contrast. Perhaps you could paint the island a more dramatic color, like Benjamin Moore's Van Deusen Blue. I say this without knowing your lighting conditions.

Sarah, I agree the wall color works with the counters. I also have to agree the cabinet color appears to clash with the walls and counters.

Sorry, you didn't ask, but removing some items from the counter tops and taking everything off the (nice!) fridge would actually help with the whole look.

What about new curtains for the sliding glass doors to match the pendants and a farmhouse style kitchen table that is gray to match the cabinets (budget permitting, right?). The pendants are a nice pop and new curtains might be too. Just thinking that new color for curtains and kitchen table will help pull the colors and overall look together. Personally, I think the colors of the cabinets, counters, & walls work just fine, and I love your pendants.

I like your rug, table and the pendants. I would definitely remove that ornate detail above the sink.

I think BM Blue Springs or Storm Affinity wall colour would look great. Its hard to tell from the picture.

After that you can decide on painting the island or not.
