Tile starting at the backsplash. Or stencil and coat with poly. Wallpaper?Laminate countertops can last a good long time if cared for. But if you see yourself removing in a few years, might want to do something less permanent...although wallpaper is almost as pricey as tile and almost as big a bear to remove there are some very nice choices. Backsplashes dont get all that dirty except behind the range. Maybe just tile above the range and add a 1-2” band over the top of the intergral backsplash in the same mosaic.

It goes all the way up to the window sills and the uppers. By the stove top, it goes all the up to the vent hood. The pic by the sink you can see how it is one continuous piece. This was done in the 80’s. Cabinet paint is also coming!

Actually I think that laminate backsplash works well just the way it is now.

Bring your texture in another way. Can we see the whole kitchen? I really think the backsplash is very well done.

Our biggest worry is that if the cabinets are painted a shade of white, then it will be too stark. Thinking about doing SW Oyster Bay above the uppers to warm it up some and of course taking down all the clutter. The cabinet color is pretty much trending again but it needs touch ups. If I’m going to take the time to paint the cabinets, I’m going to do it a color I love!

I really like how that laminate is continuous and goes up the wall. It's so functional and makes so much sense since the area behind the sink and counter is almost assuredly damaged by water/use.

I have been looking for someone who provides this type of countertop. Any idea who to go to?

Possible plan: Roughen the vertical surface so I can install tile over the vertical laminate. Or I may just paint it a solid color to differentiate if from the horizontal countertop.

Lisa, start a new post, you'll get more responses. but the short answer is: if you're trying to sell, do nothing. backsplash choices are so personal. it would be a pain in the ass, and the next owner may just rip it out. so wasteful. just price the house to sell and save your efforts for the next house you live in.

I know this is an old thread, but I have countertop and backsplash just like this. I like it. Well, it's not JUST like this....mine looks like white marble, but it goes up like that. I say if you want something different on the splash, how about tiling thin plywood and affixing it to the splash? Or you could use plexiglass and colored paper behind it.

Actually, I like your kitchen like it is, blue cabinets and all. But I would do something with that ceiling.

the OP is not here. it's an entirely different person who revived this dead thread. and they're selling soon, hence my suggestion to do nothing.

Someone else may have the same issue and this could help them.

recycle1 - that countertop was done in the 1970s...and my dad did it. It goes all the way up to the cabinets. It still looks pretty good....could use an update though since it was done in the 1970s....lol
