I like these! How about just a nice creamy white for both the mirror and the vanity cabinet? I would keep the existing hardware. This would give you an easy and inexpensive update.

You could go dark/black for a very different look.

I see your dilemma. Painting it a darker color may make the decorative part less noticeable. Removing the wallpaper as someone else mentioned would help. Maybe also change out the knobs with a crystal knob.

I love the scroll work on the vanity and mirror, very unique and so many possibilities. I second the crystal knob suggestion and to paint cabinet and mirror frame. Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams is a muted green/blue color that would go with the mustard accent tiles. Then add a few accent pieces in same color to coordinate, such as towel or toothbrush holder. Another idea would be to spray paint knobs and sconce bodies some kind of black or dark oiled bronze color to coordinate with black tile pieces in flooring and add black accents such as towel, etc. I hope this gives you some ideas.

I love it all, even the wallpaper. (Ok, maybe not the accent tile colour.) If you do paint the cabinet and mirror, I agree with going with a high gloss or lacquer finish.
