Sounds like a plan, do you need any assistance with this? Indoor growing is a great way to skip a few supermarket trips! I would recommend looking at some LED light kits to give you a quicker grow time and make sure you have the right environment.

I'm not sure where you are, but be careful with perennial herbs! My first year I planted all sorts of herbs (cute little 3" pots) in a 3x3' bed. Having not researching them, they took over!

I was able to dig out most of them, but 17 years later when I moved, there were still some lemon verbena sneaking into the other beds!

There are herbs, such as basil, parsley, cilantro that are seasonal, but re-seed.

In my area (No CA) things like rosemary, thyme, oregano, marjoram are year round and actually are planted as landscaping plants.

Find someone local that grows herbs...many grow from fresh cuttings...so ask if you could have a cutting or two...mints and thyme especially are great to grow from a cutting...use a little roottone on the end of the cutting, make a little hole in the soil in a small container and tuck the end of your cutting in and fill in the hole and give a little water.
