Direction of 7" wide engineered maple floor

The planks are 3' to 6' long and will be installed on concrete subfloor. We are removing tile, carpet and existing wood and putting in new flooring.

We have a 40' hallway that runs from front to back. The living room and kitchen are on one side of hallway. Family room is across from kitchen on other side of the hallway.

We are wondering if

A. we should run the planks parallel to the hallway and keep that direction in all the rooms

B. Keep hallway parallel all along and change the direction of planks where family and kitchen meet the hallway

C. Only do parallel to hallway midway and change the direction of wood for rest of the hallway so it stays same with kitchen and family.

I have attached a sketch of the floor plan as well. Our project starts after 7 days so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Run it the length of the room, left to right, it will look better.

qam999, we do have wood in living room that runs in the direction of hallway (direction of front door to back door, vertically if you will, in the sketch above).

g&s, when you say length of room do you mean perpendicular to the direction of hallway? This means putting the wood parallel to the exterior wall by the front door and not the hallway?

I would run it all in the same direction as your current hardwood.

Thanks mckenlm. Forgot to add, we are going to replace the old wood as well. So the whole floor is getting new engineered floor except bath and laundry.

Prady, If, you are replacing everything. I would install the new flooring parallel to your front door. That would be lengthwise in all your rooms.

I would run it the from the front door to the back door. Are you on a basement or crawl space? It really should run perpendicular to your floor joists.
