Since you didn't mention a timeline, I will throw this out there for consideration. If your new "leaf plant" is in the same size container as the mother plant, it may be some time before it starts to feel at home and put out a few colorful leaves.

I start mine in very small red cups, get the smaller plants root bound and then replant to a slightly larger cup. For me, just about the time the baby plants get nearly root bound in the smaller cups, they start to put out a couple blooms.

Small pots, small amounts of fertilizer and patience should do the trick.

It is true that AV's will, generally, fill their pots with roots before blooming. Perhaps your new plant is still working on this ...
