i can't really tell from the pics. plants do go into shock when moved inside or outside. common issue is spider mites inside...causes leaf drop. look for new leaf growth on the trunk at the nodes. if it has dropped leaves - be careful with the water... don't over do it. I like to use a water meter to check the root ball. they also will stay dormant in the winter sometimes - even inside. just give it time, watch for pests and don't over water.

merkity..this is my first hibiscus..I hated not to save it..what it really needs is a warm home outside lol..what did happen is some leaves grew at the bottom of the trunk..doesn't look pretty but I haven't cut them off yet..

it should recover fine. hibiscus that live in colder climates tend to shed in the spring anyway. Mine just dropped all their leaves a week or two ago.. in the house - they tend to dry out abit due to the heater. so they need frequent water, but definitely do NOT drown them. they have to drain and get air to to roots. they are better off a tad dry rather than too wet. if you see branches that are dried out ( the branches) you might consider trimming those back a touch. to see if a branch is still alive, scratch the bark gently to see if its green.

I've been using a bark based potting mix - MiracleGro Organic choice..looks similar to a finely shredded mulch..I like the look of it and it's never soggy..couldn't find it last year..looked online and called but no luck..website was wrong..wasn't available where it was supposed to be..so I used a "raised bed mix"..very similar..I think it drains well and helps prevent overwatering..the pic shows the mix and the new leaves..I watered today so the mix is damp and dark..the roots on this plant were on the surface when I bought it..
