Great information shown within this thread.

Interesting to see so many varied results that grew from Mr. Ko's seeds and selected crosses. In fact, some of the progeny looks even nicer than the original parent flowers....and some certainly don't. Genetics, go figure.

I'm coming to the conclusion that growing out premium seeds from a major breeder will give you the best success of getting a plant with decent flowers that are worth the time, and effort, and real estate. Junk seeds make junk plants, all too often. But you can't know unless you grow out a plant to the flowering stage. Not every flower will be a gem.

Nice work, all you growers who stuck it out to the flowering stage. Congrats.

Oh, Roger ... You must be devastated! I love this plumeria and know you do too. I was surprised to see my one branch wonder bloom again so soon. I can see it's going to be a large plumeria ... It's twice as big as everything else and as big as my seed grown Miami Rose, which I know is a huge tree. I was hoping Pink Pansy and Intense Rainbow would bloom again this year, but no such luck. I've started adding earthworm castings to their soil and am simply grateful that they are growing and healthy.

Mine are still small with only one branch and get toppled over all the time. I have started tying them to the fence with stretch nylon ties to prevent this ... It works. I'm thinking of putting rocks at the bottom of the pots, but know it's frowned upon. Still, I have several plants with rocks at the bottom and they are fine so it's a consideration. Once overnight temps fall into the 70s and the leaves begin to fall, I just cut the ties, gather them up, and huddle the bare dormant branches in a corner of the yard until early March, when they wake up again.

First flower from, Rinoa’s “Revel” seeds. Much darker than the mother plant.

This flower has a very dark, almost black colouring. The petals fold back after the first day as per the second photo. It holds the dark colour well and does not fade. This one’s a keeper :)

Second seedling I have of Rinoa’s “Grape Milkshake” - first flower.

Similar colours to mother plant, but currently a single flower.

Now I am afraid to wait. These are my first ko seed sprouts to ever live. I was just hoping for a bit of violet. now I am anxious

I guess I'm not use to see that type of round caudex. It seems more powerful then art work adeniums. But share yours when you can it may grow on me :-)

Mariaca. I have 30 somalense var. crispum seedlings from Orientadenium seeds and are a few weeks old. The round caudex in the picture are from the natural habitat and maybe a few decade's old.

I might have seen one of Ricks. It of course was not that size. I have seen really nice and different flowers from Crispum and Somalense. Have any every been grafted to obesum?

Yes Orientadenium is selling on grafted on Obesum root stock. I have grafted my self two Somalense Tanzania Nova on Obesum.

The plant from Dino was 6 mounts old when I got it a year ago. The grafted ones are one year old. The root stocks are two years old. Yes I was frustrated when I trying to graft but now I have almost 100% succes rate

I like the single flowers more then triple

Single last longer in bloom for me. Doubles and triples don't seem to open well. But messy look flowers are in right now.

The first flower is still going strong meanwhile the second one open today.

eeyore, I think I like your little single yellow with the red eye better than its parent :-)

Wow! Congratulations, Alma! You got a good, deep yellow with contrasting red! Imagine it with 10 or more branches of blooms. That will be beautiful. I like it!

Remember, it takes a lot of energy for double / triple blooms to develop. That comes with maturity and age. This one is still young and may still surprise you. Remember my Sugar Rush that boomed a perfect triple in it's 1st bloom, faded in it's 2nd bloom, single in it's 3rd bloom, and triple again in it's subsequent blooms. Look at the transition:

Marica, did you recently ask about the caudex development on the minis? This is a KO mini from his mixed mini reds ... I have terrible luck with them and it's the only one that's survived. This one was (I like to think) accidentally sprayed with Neem oil and lost all its leaves at the beginning of the season. It's in a 4" pot and is just over a year old. I am so happy it's bounced back so well!

Normally Arabicum and Thai soco blooms are tiny. I don't like big leaves on plants maybe too much nitrogen. I give it a leaves trim to see if the New leaves will be normal.

Your blue spirit is a closer color then I've seen. its pretty. You seem to have better luck with seedling to parent colors.
