Why would something custom not take into account the window trim? Having breathing space around the trim is what keeps it from being so closed in feeling.

They need to make you smaller cabinets.

Many thanks for your response -- I was told that it was a result of new construction cabinets being put into an old house, which has walls that are not at perfect angles, etc. I would have thought that doing a lot of measuring would do the trick though. I agree with your suggestion (smaller cabinets) but am being told, essentially, that my concerns are not reasonable. Thanks again.

Thank you, Chispa. I had also asked for the cabinets to go to the ceiling and they don't. When I asked why, I was told they were standard 36 inch cabinets... I did not pay for the whole project up front, but the cabinet maker is a family member, which is making the situation extremely uncomfortable. Thank you, again for your comments. It helps to hear that I am not being unreasonable in being upset about this.

Custom should be able to be 39 1/2”H with 2 1/2” of crown molding to the ceiling. Or whatever crown molding size you choose. Custom should be able to be 22 3/4”W in order to give you 3” of clear wall space around both sides of the window molding.

You don’t have custom cabinets. You have stock cabinets that someone sold you as custom. Which is fine, if they explain that on the front end, and charge you stock cabinet pricing.

You do not have custom cabinets. Did you PAY for custom cabinets?

At this point, I am scheduled to pay for custom cabinets, but perhaps will try to renegotiate. Thank you very much for your input!
