Bathroom Install Gone Wrong

Has anyone had a contractor from Houzz do a poor job on their remodel. Actually I had a "professional" from here to install a powder bathroom; during the job it was revealed to me that his license was expired. Also, while another company was installing a boiler, the plumber revealed that the work done by this so-called professional was incorrect. How do you address this issue? Should I pursue a lawsuite or not. There is more to this problem than meets the naked eye.

Anyone can put a business profile on Houzz.

I used a designer who has dozens of 5 star ratings on Houzz (I even see her ad when I read these forum posts sometimes). She was awful: twice the price a neighbor paid (I paid $4,800 for a 68 sq' bathroom plan), terrible advice (was as if she'd never gone through the reno process - the GC explained why some of her design made no sense), took 4 months (instead of 3 weeks). I learned the neighbor fired him/her but was too embarrassed to tell me. The GC never once looked at her plans - and his way was far better. Expensive lesson learned. I keep meaning to write a review but figure I'll look nuts with dozens of excellent reviews. (I honestly can't figure it out - there's no way she's good.)

I think you should "warn" others and they can make their own assessment/reviews with ALL the information in about the contractor. I told my attorney to close the case since he promised to return and correct the issues; however, at this point I don't feel like dealing with someone dishonest and may not even have the necessary skills to do what they are doing, except scamming people out of their money. I am contemplating re-opening my case just to see if I can recoup 50% of my $$$$. Thank you for sharing.

I'm sorry - but this makes no sense. Why did you wait so long? 68 sq/ft bathroom - why didn't you use someone locally?

Has anyone had a contractor from Houzz do a poor job on their remodel. Yes, for my kitchen reno. The cabinet dealer touts multiple Houzz awards, and the owner himself is a former NKBA chapter president. On my To Do list (within the next day or two) is to post a Houzz review.

I keep meaning to write a review but figure I'll look nuts with dozens of excellent reviews. If you truly feel you've given your 'guy' ample opportunity to make it right and you still feel you're in the right, by all means post an honest review. Stick to the facts, no emotion, and post representative photos. Potential customers can decide for themselves what would and would not bother them. It will be very telling if Houzz posts my recent one-star reviews -- if not, it may support some people's suspicions that these star ratings are stacked.

Who knows if the designer may subcontract out? When you say 'it took four months, instead of 3 weeks' - that is the big red flag. Tells me something was going on with the designer.
