new kitchen table

Hi! Looking for advice for a new kitchen table - I need at least 5 seats for my family and something very durable that can be wiped clean (as I have 3 young children)

take advantage of that great space by the windows and do something like this. (you can leave the middle bench open around the floor vent)

the kids would love to sit at something like this and it gives you more room.

and storage if you build these w/hinge tops.

otherwise, do a rectangular or oval, wood top table. check craigslist for something that you can repurpose.

A low-maintenance farm table with a bench for the littles might be a good option for you.

I got a 3x7' rectangular table on craigslist with a stainless steel top. It's not the most conventional dining table material, but it's SO great with littles (and glitter glue, and tape and paints, ugh.) It's a pottery barn table I doubt they sell any more, but I've seen in on craigslist again since I got ours two years ago. Good luck!

Although I love the options that Beth posted, they may. not be practical seating for your children. I would get a set with chairs that do not have many crevices or spindles and table that has a washable surface. I have a set made by Canadel that has held up to an army of diners and crafters.

I think your windows extend too low to be able to install a window seat.

I love Beth's idea! But another low cost option would be to chalk paint your table black. My sister did that to her table and it looks fantastic! AND it's easier to clean. Maybe you can get a few more years out of this table while the kids are younger.

I see cheerios and graham cracker crumbs on the window seats and hiding in between the cushions and if an adult friend comes over unexpectedly and sits there, she could sit in a sticky jelly mess that was caught on the edge of the cushion that you didn't even know was there. Just my thoughts, sorry for the window seat downer :)

Thank you all for your advice, the windows are too low for a bench (I think there is just over 1 foot from bottom of window to floor and the idea of fabric seats and my kids will just lead to me washing them daily!)

This is my set that I absolutely love. Very durable leather chairs from IKEA and marble like table from overstock. Nothing can stain this table.

It looks like for your space you would want a oval or round table. Also Beth has a great suggestion.

i despise benches. They are cute but very annoying to use and sit on. If people are different sizes, they are never quite at the right distance for everyone.

For our 5 we have a round table. Do a slightly more modern style to fit your light fixture and kitchen which are updated, while the table/chairs seem older.

Keep light smaller chairs so the kids can move them easily.

A 53" round table would work to seat 5.

Unless you want to change out your windows, they are much too low to install a window seat. You need at least 17"-19" high for seating, and yours looks to be lower than that.
