With or without pendant lighting?

I just knocked down a wall in my condo to make a kitchen island between the living room and kitchen. I currently have 4 can lights in the vaulted ceiling living room side and 3 can lights in the kitchen. I also need a sconce and dining room light. Looking for ideas on 3 pendants, sconce, and dining room light. The dining room light will line up with the last canned light. I don't have a dining table picked out yet. The kitchen is pretty small, maybe 200 square feet so the lighting is already pretty good. Should I go without pendant lights or with? Not sure on the latest style and designs? Thanks!

I like to light the work areas in the kitchen and i like the kitchen well lit... i have 6 can lights, a pendent over the island and 2 pendents over the sink area which is comparable to your sink area i also have 4 windows in the kitchen and i have no upper cabinets, the more lighting you have in your kitchen, the happier you will be working there....

because you have the header right there, you can't do your pendants w/out some serious work. can you put in two more recessed lights over the island, in back of the header?

how much of an over hang are you doing on the living room side?

There's a crawl space above my unit which allows us to do electrical. Kitchen ceiling side is 8 feet and it vaults to 12 feet once you walk in the living room. I considered putting pendants above my island?

where is the island going to be is what I meant. like, how far out is it going to overhang? draw a diagram if it's easier. just trying to picture where you need this lighting.

oh sorry the island will be where I knocked down the wall between the kitchen and living room. The countertop will overhang into the living room 10 inches, pendants will be centered above it if I get them.

I'd put the pendants on the ceiling side in the kitchen right before you walk into the living room where it vaults.

Thanks, I just got done with the cabinets today. I still have painting and floor to do but will probably do pendants as well.

I like canned lighting over the island and then splurge on counter tops and backsplash to die for...... and then allow the chandelier over the dining table to be THE feature in the living eating area......the wow factor.

considering the space I would not do pendants unless it will turn into a task lighting area- reading, study, surgery? the human eye is drawn to odd numbers- 3, 5, 7. two lights are your max in that space. it looks well lit for dining as is.
