Thanks gardengal48! At first I was wondering if it was some sort of Wintergreen.

In other words the familiar "wintergreen" of gardens is Gaultheria procumbens, a heath family plant in the same genus as the much taller growing salal. Its leaves aren't clustered together at the ends of the shoots either, nor are its fruits.

And unlike those of Gaultheria the fruits of Skimmia are poisonous. Not a visual identification feature of course but perhaps still worth mentioning here.

This one has both berries and flower buds visible.

Probably what the local trade has a history of presenting to the market as 'Dwarf Female'.
