Hi we are doing a kitchen Reno and mud room addition. I've attached a photo of the current kitchen (sorry the fridge is in overbearing) and a suggested layout from a drafting company. I feel like the new layout is going to be a but tight with the island. Our 2nd option is to move the wall out (right hand side in drawing) and make the kitchen wider but this would obviously cost more. Any suggestions on the current space. I'm planning to go with cabinets and a modern appearance. Thanks

Will you be staying in this house at least 10 years? then do the remodel you want w/as much space as you can afford. take out the wall and go from there. Even If you pick up 3', that would still give you a bit more room. Then you could move the fridge over to that side since you'd have more room.

I'm assuming you'll also be taking up that ceiling?

You could always shorten that one window and continue the countertop and lower cabinets along that wall.

I recommend you really make sure you have the budget to accomplish these goals and find a architect who can help along with possibly a good kitchen designer. Be realistic, or you will be in over your head in no time.

I would recess that huge fridge into the closet on the left. Then put a floor to ceiling pantry where the fridge is now. Would open it up tremendously

Do you really need the dedicated opening into the kitchen off of the hall? Incorporating the hall closets into the kitchen, and extending the wall where the closets are and using that space for cabinetry might be possible. The use of a cabinet depth or even a built in fridge in the closet space or hall space seems more practical than extending the room. A peninsula rather than an island also seems more practical, given your space constraints.

You have great light through the window near the dining room. Does it face south? My concern would be this addition creates a cavernous kitchen. Can the mudroom go across the back of the kitchen meeting up with the back door near the stairs?

Id check their measurements.it doesn't look like there's room for a range next to the fridge unless that window was moved?

G shaped kitchen with a peninsula would work. But this is far from an inexpensive endeavor. When you’re dofmfing 200K, what’s another 25K?
