Mine gets as tall as I am. I have it sort of wedged between a couple of shrubs and also have a 4' or 5' wire support. It the years that it has sprawled I haven't like how it looks as much. I will look to see if i have any photos of it. It is a long bloomer in my garden.

Mine scrambles up and into a large rhododendron.....it is quite a bit taller than I am so I doubt a peony ring would be adequate. And I also don't care for the way mine looks without some sort of elevation, so not inclined to let it sprawl.

I do recall a durandii that was planted at a nursery I used to work at that was allowed to sprawl down a rather steep slope and it looked great! But it was very well established and never cut back and in full west facing sun.

I don't have any photos of mine.....I am usually too busy taking pics at clients yards that I ignore or forget about mine :-) But that intense blue color is what I like as well. I got it to replace my Harlow Carr that mysteriously just vanished one season. Harlow seems to be MIA from the marketplace these days..........

Durandii grows straight up on stiff stems but then flops over. A Peony ring won't be tall enough. I tried to grow mine between two roses but it did not look right. I shovel pruned it and have had it in a pot for a couple years trying to figure out where to put it.

I've only had Durandii for one year, so it isn't big enough for me to contribute anything of use to you. However, I just wanted to say that I think you are going to love it. So far I find it to be a very charismatic plant.

I am fairly sure that it is Star River, but there is a slight chance that it is Juuli. The tag is under a foot of icy snow, so I can't check.

I also ordered one this year-also for the color :) I had planned on having it scramble up a couple of roses but now am not sure...

Well, I've got mine planted to scramble through a rose bed too. If it starts looking bad as it gets bigger, I guess I'll just stick up some sort of support in lieu of the rose it is near.
